  1. I left school in 1968 and was set on as an apprentice turner at Firth Browns. My first wage was £3-17s-4d, which was about 8p a hour in decimal money.
  2. I have done what Jomie reccomended and uninstalled Kaspersky and then reinstalled it. This has now cured the problem, many thanks to Jomie and to everyone else who posted. Al

Trouble is I cannot remember enabling parental cntrol or setting a password. Also when I try to access kaspersky support the flaminn parental control kicks in and asks for the password which I aint got. Any help would begreatly appreciated. Al
  4. Hi today I had the fun of driving to Sheffield on my motorbike and sidecar, the time I'd finished going in and out of the pot holes thought I was going to be seasick. Anyway back to the taxi lane, went through Hiilsborough corner and up Langsett Road towards town what fun that was can't say. Got on to Infirmary Road trying avoid tram tracks and ended up going through taxi only route on to Penistone Road. Does anyone know how much the fine is for this serious crime. Thanks Al
  5. Happy new year all, I couldn't believe it either about the cookery thing flaming stupid. I couldn't listen to Radio Sheffield on Saturdays because of Miss Edwards prattling, so I thought I would give the new show a go. Big mistake so it's planet rock from 7 till 10 gets rid of the cobwebs if nowt else. Al
  6. Good Morning and Merry Christmas everybody, been following this thread for a while now and have had to laugh at some posts. Every one has different tastes but to me you all have one thing in common you all moan about Radio Sheffield. Why don't you just tune in to another radio station or just switch off, but then it seems you would have nothing to whinge about. Al (I do not work for any radio station)
  7. Hi does any body know where I can obtain some aluminium angle and flat strip in Sheffield. I've looked online at some suppliers and the prices are quite reasonable but the shipping is flipping expensive. The size I want is angle 25mm x 25mm x 3mm and 50mm x 3mm for the flat strip. thanks Al
  8. Hi I went to Beck Road in the early sixties, Ican remember Mr Churchward, Mr Ellis and Miss Varnishun. Miss Varnishun always dressed in dark clothes and she always wore a tie a frightning woman especially when your'e only 9. My sister has just told me Mr Ellis has just passed away at the age of 91, he was one of the better teachers
  9. I have just bought a bike and sidecar, it's a Honda Deauville with a Squire box fitted. I wanted to get back into biking after a 30 year break but due to arthritis I can't manage a solo machine. The bloke I bought it from has customised the box so he could get his two border collies in it. It has two windscreens and two holes with fitted lids. I've got a couple of pics not very good ones though. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k123/3dogman/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160806_20_57_57_Pro.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k123/3dogman/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20160813_12_15_05_Pro.jpg I have never rode an outfit before and it's weird driving one, I had to fetch the bike from Bedford near Northampton 124 miles away. After 30 mins learning I was belting back up the M1 at 70 mph crackers I know.
  10. Hello again, took the tape deck and amp to a repair shop in Stocksbridge Cotterills. Joined everything up and it was humming like mad, after a bit of flaffing about he said it was a ground loop hum. I don't what it is properly but was advised it was the amp causing the hum. I was told to try another amp. I didn't get another amp but bought two ground loop isolators from Amazon, connected them and magic no hum. Don't know how long they will last but I'm happy. Thank you to everyone who offered advice greatly appreciated. Al Bit long winded I know.
  11. Right then today I connected my turntable to the input on the tape deck, it has a built in amp for use on certain systems. I then connected the headphone socket of the tape deck to the aux input on my small stereo system. A bit fiddly I know but it works (I've got to much spare time). There is no hum or feedback this way and it records and plays back ok. Connecting everything back to the receiver and it hums away merrily on record but plays back what I've taped ok. I wonder if this shows if the receiver is faulty or the tape decks at fault. I think I'm going crackers. Al
  12. I was 60 a couple of years ago trouble is my head thinks I'm 22 and my body thinks it's 82, happy days. Al
  13. Hello adamskiec, on the receiver the inputs are marked play and rec, and on the tape deck they are marked in and out. I have connected the play on the receiver to the output on the deck and the rec on the receiver to the input on the tape deck. There is also a din connector on the tape and amp, I've got a din lead so I'll give that a go. The tape deck doesn't have built in speakers. Al
  14. The hum is coming on when recording. The tape deck is an Akai X181OD with an eight track recorder built in, it doesn't have a built in amp. The receiver is a Hitachi model SR 304L. Both machines are like me getting on a it, but the amp works ok with my turntable and the built in tuner works fine. All connectors are rca phono leads.
  15. Hello, I'm having problems recording from a stereo receiver amp to a reel to reel tape deck. When recording I get a loud hum from the speakers when playing back recorded material. I only tried recording from the tuner so far, I am going to try the turntable and see if that's the same. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Al
