  1. I am the original poster… My biggest beef in general is that we are a large city but it seems EVERYTHING we do or allow to be done always seems to end up being a complete circus ! If a business agrees to have work done or do work for you then you expect it done in a timely efficent manner don’t you? However if you are Sheffield City Clowncil you let anyone pull the wool over your eyes, skank you with their promises that never happen and there are NO consequences! I would cite the 3rd world container shopping fiasco on Fargate recently… no one held accountable for a complete dogs dinner that cost ratepayers over 600K…. NO Xmas lights switch on evening this time as it’s too busy! Busy with the long protracted unneeded refurb of Fargate , however it’s not too busy to stuff a VERY expensive market on there is it ! SCC are a shambles and have been for years, I would not in all truth ask them to go to the shop for me because they would keep your change but never deliver what you sent them for in the first place !!! And breathe !!!!
  2. Well, Sheffield was chosen as a city to be the beneficiary of the super fast FTTP and the service contract given to CityFibre.. they dug up our road in S20 in March and according to the blurb the service would be tested and commissioned/offered for usage generally within 6 weeks of works completion. it is November 1st tomorrow and still no sign at all of the service being available!! Yet another example of the levelling up agenda gone hopelessly wrong …. Has ANYONE got FTTP as a result of this latest round of works, I personally have no confidence in City Fibre, Open Reach or SCC to ensure it ever comes to fruition! Very much like my pet topic the Man Of Steel, FTTP looks to be something else Sheffield isn’t getting anytime soon… unless anyone knows differently ?? Cheers
  3. So, Tonights Star has given an "update"!!! Apparently, the project team have approached Outokumpu in an effort to beg some steel to make what essentially sounds like a small mock up of their intended finished article!! The amount raised through the donations would be considerable, but they are essentially trying to cadge the steel!! As I have looked deeper into this debacle, this latest news fills me with no positivity or actual belief that the rival to the Angel of The North is ever going to see completion. This smacks of another "special announcement" to try and ward off any unwanted scrutiny. The people of Sheffield are not stupid, I think most people will read this and see the same as me..smoke & mirrors, nothing more!! I genuinely hope I am proven wrong, but so so many years since its inception, part of me already knows the probable outcome.
  4. I am the original poster.. I contacted Meadowhall and they assured me they would look into it… Had a reply couple of days ago and it went along the lines of… They had contacted “stakeholders” in the project who told them there was to be an announcement soon …. Not sure whether I believe that, my gut feeling is the stakeholders whoever they are may be lifting Meadowhall’s leg too!! We will see … but after sooooo long I won’t be holding my breath !!!!
  5. I have tried to do some further digging into this mess. The council are not involved as such, it was not a commission or request from them that started the project, so it was probably a private venture. Looking at the available info the guy chosen to make the sculpture was called Mehdi.. he appears to have been ousted from the Man of Steel board of directors some time ago.. A woman called Jane Hughes is supposedly still an active director, however, the filings for monies are woeful, it appears last filing were 32K in and almost 32K in debt...with balance for the company of less than ÂŁ200!! It's not just the fact there isn't detailed records of monies etc...my biggest concern is there is no actual point of contact with ANYONE remotely involved with the project. Someone, somewhere has trousered a decent amount of Sheffield people/businesses cash!! If this project is still alive, and ongoing surely it is time someone with a dog in the fight so to speak were able to ask company directors etc some questions re timescales, which on the surface appear to have simply slipped and nothing is being done. If anyone with an active role/participation in the project has anything to say, then please do. I am not calling you out as such, but realistically after so so long there should be some progress , or if not someone willing to tell the public where their money has gone? Me? I think its got a real element of something very underhanded and would like someone to put the record straight.
  6. Hi, I'm the original poster… tried the Yorkshire Icon Ltd tele number … no voicemail facility all disabled.. registered in Bradwell , Derbyshire which is NOT a Sheffield landline is it ! I want to hope it’s going to happen but the issues with the cash etc !!! Yorks Icon show donations to it as a charity of under 10K with over 16K laid out !! All very suspect and frustrating to say the least !!
  7. Has anyone got any news about the MOS fiasco? I recall 11yrs ago it was announced, and the guy chosen to do it opened a website, and allowed people to buy "namespots" or similar on it for ÂŁ25 each . My wife bought 2 for my Dad and hers......Here we are in 2023... there is a website, which wont open, Facebook has NO news whatsoever thats anything like recent!!! After about 7yrs I recall emailing the site and asking why it was taking so long...The reply I got quoted the Angel Of The North in Gateshead took a while, a rather cursory reply to be honest. I have just checked the AOTN history...it was commissioned to be built in 1994...and was there in place 4yrs later....obviously a well run project, run by professionals it would seem. I wonder how much money was spent on the name spots, and where it actually is now, because one thing is ABSOLUTELY clear, there is no progress re the actual sculpture, or none that has been made known. The Avesta Bull on the side of the M1, whilst not really depicting Sheffield was a landmark. The MOS was meant to be something far greater!! Has the guy who got the commission actually progressed this or is it lost in so much red tape and half truths/promises that it will never happen!!!
  8. Just seen our illustrious leader Terry Fox on Calendar… what a slob.. couldn’t even button up his shirt/tie and basically said he was the man for the job going forward… oh yes Terry because you got it spot on re the fiasco with the container mess on Fargate didn’t you!! Neither you or the incompetents you lead fill me with any confidence at all regarding anything to do with this once great city… it’s time for a change and hopefully in the upcoming local elections you get removed, this circus act simply has to stop!!!!
  9. I am not convinced that sacking her now serves any purpose at all. There has been an “ internal investigation “ which having experience of SCC investigations will have been slipshod at best, they haven’t sacked her so what point is there to sacking her , paying her off and then going through the process of finding another CEO and paying them possibly more because we are in dire need of someone to actually do the job . OR like someone else suggested , have we really missed her input and is the role actually a necessity? Who knows , but one thing is certain, in the corridors of power at SCC everything carries on blindly, driving a once thriving city towards total mediocrity! I was in Manchester on Tuesday , a city not without issues but WOW the difference in both cities is blatantly obvious, there’s a buzz in Manchester that Sheffield hasn’t had for years, and with the Fred Karno leadership we have that just simply will not change.
  10. Anyone else in the Waterthorpe/Crystal Peaks area been plagued these last few nights/last week or so by some <removed> on an off road motorcycle riding round the area late on in the afternoon then into the evening? No good ringing 101..after the obligatory 1hour wait they will simply tell you its not a priority, and you just know its never ever going to get a sniff, I'm surprised some local hasn't put a broom handle through the wheel. Can't for the life of me work out where it is but its now 11pm and its still doing the rounds!!!
  11. The council appear to have set on some incredibly poor road maintenance team to carry out road resurfacing etc recently...It was Amey in the past...I live in S20, they put up signs to do our road, a dead end with cul de sacs off it...they rocked up...a day later than on the posters, which said 3days required...it took them almost 3 weeks to do half the work, still unfinished , and recently it turns out, our bit not being done! And it wasn't Amey vans doing the work..they are too busy cutting down trees that don't need cutting down!! The workmanship is astonishingly poor, one resident complained about the grate outside their home which was simply filled in with the goop they pour on!! Resulted in Clive Betts coming down, agreeing it was basically **** but nothing else!! I have, truthfully never seen workmanship so bad, so, the new Mini Rdbt at Moss Way...it doesn't surprise me one bit that it too is crap... as someone said...raised ironworks...camber all wrong...oh and the tram works..you drive past and theres like 3 guys half heartedly doing minuscule amounts of whatever it is they are meant to be doing! It's obviously a day rate job, hence the stop/start road closures open/closed again approach. Its an amateur job, but when you have SCC involved in anything then what possible other outcome is there!!
  12. The original poster clearly dislikes the Police, I myself do not. Don't post such banal trivial rubbish trying to open a debate about a non topic. I bet if you called them, regardless what for, you wouldn't mind how they got there...bus lane violations, the full bag o mashings! Grow up, as a couple have said, it's not an easy job, and when some busybody posts on here trying to stir the sh it, they must wonder why they bother!!
  13. We "discovered" OiSoi about 15 months ago, and truthfully, along with. Milano's it is head and shoulders above any other place in the city. If you want to walk in without booking you will probably end up downstairs. Informal, relaxed, food still great, however, the real treat is to ensure you book to sit upstairs.Elegant surroundings, very friendly, attentive staff, and the food is to die for. I don't know what people consider pricy or reasonable, but for us it has hit the spot every time we have been. We recently went to a Pizza place in Kelham Island area, ÂŁ40 with a couple of drinks, and it was average at best, so another 20 or so for a night and day difference is well worth it in my book. Give it a try, if you are into Thai Fusion style food..I don't think you will be disappointed. AND tell me the front of house guy is NOT a body double for Serge, the Art gallery guy in Beverly Hills Cop!! You need to be quite old to recall him, but once it's in your mind! All very polite/friendly and will talk to you in general if you engage them, it's always nice to know a persons "journey" to end up working in a grim Northern town when they are clearly not from here. Funnily enough, we have just had to cancel a Saturday night booking due to us both having the flu virus!!
  14. Found out today that the response policing facility that was based at Moss Way has all been moved down to Attercliffe as from today... 12/9/17. So if you live in the very southern side of the city, you wont be seeing any patrol cars round Mosborough, Frechville etc etc. The building at Moss Way has slowly been emptied of operational cops, and I fear with this latest "rationalisation" or whatever the police spin people will call it, it won't be long before we see the entire building closed/mothballed, and then sold to make way for another cheapo supermarket! SYP really do seem to have pulled this stroke across the city, Deepcar is covered by officers based in the City Centre would you believe! Sheffield has lost Hammerton Road, as a response station, now Moss Way, it wont be long before Woodseats goes the same way I imagine, and the biggest thing is..once you close them down, sell the land, there's no way they are EVER going to open another one is there!!
  15. I know it's not the steepest per se...but for the cyclists...try Carr Rd, from Deepcar all the way up to Bolsterstone...long steep drag, couple of "rest points" where it probably drops off to about 6 or 7%, it's not the steepness, but the leg busting length and its one continuous hill..the bottom bit is especially tough, and while we are out in Deepcar/Stocksbridge...try Nanny Hill from the main road, up past the clock tower all the way to Stocksbridge park Steels ground..another tester!!! Oh and Hole House Lane, from main road, up pas the school..its all hills out there!
