  1. I know how you feel, we got married last year & both felt like that. Thing is I wouldn't worry - the thing about getting married is everyone is watching you all day anyway...... On plus side at least everyone there will be people you want there. We took 4 dance lessons at the place in Hillsborough - opposite leisure centre - city limits. Didn't turn us into ginger rogers & fred astaire but it gave us a routine, which we could concentrate on for the 3 mins 30 of song.
  2. I appreciate the point you are making, but I think you need to do your maths here mate as it's not as clear cut as you think. 20,000 @ £20 = £400,000 25,000 @ £15 = £375,000 However, how many pies, beers, programmes, Bovril's etc do an extra 5,000 people buy? Plus the bigger the crowd, the more you can charge for sponshorship etc. Perhaps someone knows what the per person spend is at Utd or weds? Let's say on average they add an extra £5 of profit to club. That's 5,000 x £5 = £25,000. No difference in profit, but a bigger crowd, better atmosphere etc. What I'm pointing out is, I am sure both chairman know the crowd/entrance price equation & work it into their favour. As for the Wood thing - I imagine even if he was playing week in week out he'd have gone. Exactly same as Kilgallon - excellent championship defenders, question marks over top level ability, but can attract wages above what either club wants to pay. In an ideal world someone comes & takes your overpaid crap (Jeffers?) but it doesn't always work out that well.
  3. I'm going to be controversial but Solicitors do not make any money out of wills. You can generally get a couple of wills done for £150-£250. Think of how many hours work is involved, storing them for free until something happens, & how much they could make from other areas of their business. Plus by making the will with them, you are covered if they **** it up. If you get your will wrong (Many of my clients have done just this) then it is horrendous. It costs so much more money to put it right, can lead to legal disputes, plus a long wait for the estate to be settled @ just the time when it's the last thing you need. This is where solicitors make their money. I am not in the legal profession, I do not get paid for sending my clients to solicitors to have their wills made, but it is the right thing to do. There are 4 solicitor companies I recommend & they are all reasonable on cost. PM me if you want any details. I had a solicitor do my will & I can sleep safely knowing that if anything happens to me, my wife & daughter who is on the way, will not have to deal with a costly nightmare just for the sake of being tight. Do it properly or don't do it all. Will aid is a great idea if you'd rather your money go to charity rather than a solicitor. Bell & Buxton & Watson Esam are taking part that I know of.
  4. Kenny - are you sticking your millions in then? How do you expect us to spend money we simply don't have?
  5. We stayed at the Leopold Hotel. You can book a normal double room online for your budget. Then call them & tell 'em it's your honeymoon & they may upgrade you to the split level messanine room. It was AMAZING! We did have about 30 guests staying there which helped our case in getting an upgrade, but I am pretty sure they didn't even ask about who else was staying there.
  6. No income tax on interest in an ISA so you get the full amount of interest added. However as you have to fill out a form to move an ISA, the rates tend to be quite poor (especially on previous years allowances) so do shop around. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com is a good place to look. Lower the interest rate, less benefit from tax free. ISA 1%, outside would be 0.8% or 0.6% depending on tax rate. Only 0.2 or 0.4% difference. But if it was 10%, difference would be 2% or 4% - far bigger ISA advantage. I transferred what was left in my cash ISA into a stocks & shares one cos interest so low. Still, you have to be up for the extra risk you take in the stockmarket. If not, don't do it. Premiums bonds are an utter waste of time at the moment. You should move somewhere you can get more interest & use the extra interest to buy lottery tickets if you still want the chance of winning something.
  7. Missing someone's name off is one thing, but United's best ever post war player in TC & Whitehouse was an absolute legend - he was the best player at the lane when he was disgracefully taken out. If I hadn't got the shirt free I would've taken it back. I think I'm gonna get the Mrs to do some DIY - I'll replace Robson with Whitehouse!
  8. You seem a sensible lad (apart from your choice of team;)) who has made some very good points. However, I was not for a second suggesting that you don't have a right to post about United - of course you do. What I was trying to point out was that us Blades are all stakeholders in our club - we put money in, & when it comes down to what actually happens at the Lane it is then only what we want to happen that actually matters. As for the so-called Blade who suggests we would just as well have Robson back - WHAT? Things are not even close to that bad. In fact if I was seconds from a very nasty death I would still consider things to not be as bad as when Robson was manager. I have always watched every united game to the end, regardless of the score (I miss the first couple of mins of almost every game - well you gotta have an extra pint:hihi:!) But when he was in charge I missed the first & last 20 minutes regularly. We are not playing well, but only the next few games will tell if it is a short dip or something more terminal. Don't ever suggest we'd be just as well having Robson back. You make yourself look a fool, & as you're a blade you're clearly not one.
  9. I think one thing all blades on this post are agreed on is that McCabe has done wonders for our club. As it is OUR club, it is OUR money that buys tickets merchandise etc, surely the opinions of Wendy fans on this don't mean much? Don't let them wind us up. Infact we should take their comments as a compliment - they are trying to denegrate a man that has moved us forward. 3-sided ground anyone? Just remember that as we get into the chilly part of the season & the wind isn't rippping round the ground like it did then. We live within our means which is the only way to run any business. United has to be a business, otherwise we won't be around. We can only spend what we have. It is frustrating, pretty bloody boring actually, but I want bdtbl to be there so I can take my kids & they can take their's etc. The money has been there - Warnock wasted it terribly in the January transfer window when in the prem, I don't need to comment on the farce that was R****n(I can't even print that ******* name!) & Blackwell has wasted the little left on wages etc on a large number of average wide players which is why we are struggling badly at the moment. Should he be sacked? Possibly. Will he be sacked? Not today I expect, as McCabe is a good chairman & he will back his manager. It is frustrating, it is boring, but it is stability. Blackwell will go if this is stll the case in a month or so's time but we were very good last season let's not forget that. He has earned, I think, a bit of support for the next month at least. UTB!
  10. I lvied in China for 2 years & Tin tins is definitely the mosy authentic. It's the only place I have found outside of Northern China to cook my favourite dish - Guo Bao Rou. It's Northern Style sweet & Sour. I strongly suggest all of you to try it. Though, as it is the best dish ever, be prepared for wanting more!
  11. I've been going to watch united since the early 80's. There have been a lot of great players for both teams since then. I am going with what are in my view the best players. There will be much conjecture. 1.) Kelly 2.) Nilsson 5.) Walker 6.) Jagielka 3.) Naughton 7.) Brown 4.) Palmer 8.) McCall 11.) Waddle 9.) Hirst 10.) Deane I'm including Naughton in my team as he is the BEST player IMHO United have produced, unfortunately he's at lb as tbf Nilsson was a solid international rb. To put Fjortoft or Bright up there with Deane or Hirst is ridiculous in my opinion. Those 2 players were hero-worshipped for a reason. I left out both Italians - no badge kissing or ridiculous wages in my team. McGrath is the best cb to have played for both teams, but he was a real drinker, would ruin the team. It's a side any of the managers over the past 30 years (with the obvious exceptions of Robson & Pleat) could manage.
  12. If you're near Broomhill/Manchester Road, just pop into the office & i'll do it for you. Gratis of course.
  13. Medusa has it spot on. Don't get into debt for the wedding. I don;t think there are specific wedding loans (clever marketing maybe<) it would probably be a normal unsecured loan. My brother is still paying his off from 7 years ago (& they got divorced because of the money stress). My wife & I just got married in July & it was amazing & luckily myself & my father in law had saved, but I honestly think whatever we had done would have been amazing anyway. It's all about the people there on the day. Work out what you can afford, what other things people can help with - perhaps you have friends who are great at catering, photography etc who can do you a deal. Work out what else you need & save for it (I can help - there's my little self promo). Good luck with it all!
  14. Was on my way home from teaching an evening class in Taiwan when some local Taiwanese guys pulled me into a bar to watch it on TV. I thought it was a film for the first couple of minutes until it dawned on me that it was real!
  15. Boy friday - I 100% agree. The same principle applies - if it seems too good to be true it usually is. Never buy anything based on what it has done or says it will do. Usually your own common sense would tell you whether investing in something seems right or not. Personally, my clients invest in bog standard, big, boring companies. Can't avoid disappointment over the short term, but you can usually avoid disaster. Now if I had billions of client money to invest I probably wouldn't have time to post on here.............
