  1. 22,000 burglaries over 3 years in Sheffield is scary. I didn't realise the figure was so high! I've read before that if a criminal steals car radios from 20 cars parked in the same car park, it classes as 1 crime. Does anybody know if the same applies to a burglar robbing x amount of houses in the same night. If it does then the figures are even more scary or is this an urban myth? I have had a look on google but I can't find anything concrete and the match is starting soon
  2. It depends very much on your circumstances. If you've only got a 10% deposit and work for Sheffield City Council, then now is probably a terrible time to buy.
  3. Rinse and repeat. Disappointed that we're going back to San Andreas so soon as I don't think the PS3 has the capabilities to truly allow GTA 5 to stand on it's own 2 feet compared to GTA San Andreas. I'm sure it'll be a better game than SA but going on GTA 4, they don't have the power to make it progressive enough to feel like a totally new game. I reckon they'll be times when it feels like you've been there and done that as I felt that with GTA 4 and that was with a brand new city (the LC in GTA 3 wasn't really a version of New York, just VERY loosely based on it). Obviously we need further info before we know how good or not this will be but my initial reaction is that it'll depend on when the game comes out as to whether I'll buy it straight away. If it's during the footy season I'll probably wait until the price comes down:)
  4. I don't like the Saints Row games myself and I don't think GTA 5 needs to be as madcap as those games in order to redeem the series. Just not as serious will do as there were omissions from GTA 4 that weren't necessary and spoiled the experience slightly. Not being able to fully customise Niko and him not being able to ride a pushbike were a couple of things that were OTT in terms of trying to make the game too realistic. The new game needs to branch out more in terms of making the city/landscape seem more alive when missions aren't taking place. Muggings, armed robberies and drug dealing should be taking place as you walk around and you should get attacked by strangers for no reason. You should also be able to set up drug dens to make money from that are then raided by the police at random points during the game. I might apply to Rockstar to see if they need any help with GTA 6
  5. If that happened I don't think I'd leave the house for a year, maybe even never again:D. Some people thought the map of San Andreas was too big but I'd prefer an actually fully recreated city map, it'd be brilliant. 600 square miles of London, yes please.
  6. I was disappointed with the last one. It was a good game but it didn't live up to expectations IMO and the 'realistic' route spoiled it a bit for me. The whole attention to detail thing seemed like a bit of a gimmick and there weren't enough additions to what you could do in the game as the city was still basically dead until you started a mission. I'm hoping for more this time.
  7. Dan Houser has previously said that Rockstar probably wouldn't look to make a GTA outside of America or Britain as most of the developers were American or British. He said he thought it would be difficult for them to do justice to a GTA set somewhere else. This was a few years ago so things could have changed and it would certainly surprise people if GTA 5 is in Tokyo or Bogota. I think it'll stay in America though. I'm hoping we'll see a brand new city or cities. There are a lot of rumours about Los Angeles but I'm not sure why they'd go back there so soon after re-creating a realistic version of LA in GTA San Andreas. They went back to Liberty City for GTA 4 but the Liberty City in GTA 3 was only very loosely based on New York whereas the LA in San Andreas was clearly meant to be LA (South Central, Santa Monica, Hollywood, East LA, etc.).
  8. I was going to start a thread on this, you beat me to it:). It's not a joke and a trailer is due to be released next Wednesday so hopefully we'll find out where the game is going to be set. Interesting that the logo has a V and the word five. It could be that Rockstar are playing with people as there has been a lot of speculation that the game would be set in Vinewood (the GTA worlds Hollywood). I reckon that if the game was in fact going to be set there that we wouldn't see the V as Rockstar like to keep things under wraps for as long as possible.
  9. There's club in Durham and one in Dublin that claims to be the world's oldest football club. There is also speculation that football teams were around in the 1400's or even that football was invented in China! However both FIFA and the FA recognise Sheffield FC as being the worlds oldest football team so I agree with the OP that we should celebrate this and promote it as much as we can. It wouldn't be some obscure boast as Football is the most popular sport in the entire world.
  10. I don't think it matters what time the KO time as those who want to drink all day will do so. With a 3 o'clock KO time people will just go to the boozer before the match and then again after it, I doubt there's any reduction in post match trouble. It spoils it for the rest of us with a 12 o'clock kick off though as it dampens the atmosphere. I much prefer night matches or even just a standard 3 o'clock kick off.
  11. It all depends on what you consider a 'nice area'. £90k would get you a terrace in Woodseats, Hillsborough and Walkley and I'd rather live in those 3 areas than on Park Hill. It's horses for courses though and that's just my preference. You also need to consider the service charges that you need to pay in a flat as these will bump up your monthly outgoings. A mortgage and service charges on a £90k flat in Park Hill might be the monthly payment equivalent of a £95-£100k mortgage on a house in Hillsborough. Does anybody know what the monthly service charge on Park Hill is going to be?
  12. When do these flats go on sale? I looked on the Urban Splash website but you have to register your interest in order to receive further information. I don't want to buy a flat so I don't want to register with them.
  13. I bought a TV four months ago and it's developed a slight fault in the last week or so. When I turn the TV on the screen comes on but then turns off and immediately back on. I know it's only a minor thing but it's annoying and the TV cost quite a lot so I'd like a replacement or to get it repaired. I've checked a few consumer guides online and they state that if a fault develops within 6 months of purchase then the store I bought it from must repair the TV or refund me the money. Does anybody know if there are any catches to this such as 'faulty' having to mean that the TV doesn't actually work (i.e. I can't watch anything on it)? I would like to know exactly what my rights are before I give the shop a ring so has anybody had any experience with this kind of thing? They may be helpful when I phone them up but I'd rather be fully prepared so I know where to stand my ground,
  14. Around 3 years ago that list would have been a lot shorter......the average Sheffield property price is down around 20% since then. Affording a property doesn't necessarily mean that it's good value.
  15. Latest figures from LR show prices up 0.8% nationally but down -0.1% in Sheffield. That's the 6th month in a row that prices have fallen here but that period roughly covers September to February (due to LR's lag) so it isn't that unexpected. I think we could see 2 or 3 months of modest rises now, particularly as some of the previous 6 monthly falls were quite steep. I still reckon we'll be at least -20% from peak come the end of the year though.
