  1. yeah Ive been looking for Arabic lessons for ages - I thought id found one at Mount Pleasant starting in January but today they told me ill have to wait till September . Looks like ill have to find a tutor instead but thats not going to be easy from my experience so far.
  2. Yeah im pretty sure you will get slated for this, but I agree. How unhappy, desperate and misguided do you have to be to want to blow yourself up? And most of them were really young as well. Maybe some of the vitriol in this thread should be directed at the people who persuaded them to carry it out - if only we knew who they were....
  3. wow what a great thread - a competition to say the nastiest thing about suicide bombers. Why stop there? That Hitler was a nasty piece work I hear. And Stalin was a right tw*t. The world needs to know!
  4. Have to say im impressed by how quickly this thread (my first) has become a fierce debate, though I think some people are reading a little to much into the situation. Its not like weve just found out Rebekah Wade has been abusing Ross Kemp over a sustained period, just that she hit him once. So at the moment I find that 'funny' because im pretty sure Ross can cope. It seems like the split lip wasnt even from the fight anyway, according to the latest reports. Considering how much anti-PC stuff ive read on this forum it does seem a little ridiculous that laughing at this very specific case should necessarily be taken to mean that you find domestic violence funny per se. Lots of people have asked whether it would be funny if ross kemp had hit rebekah wade - well personally I would say no, and I would hope so would everyone else. Change almost any of the details of it and it loses its comedic or at least ironic value. As it Dan Sumption says above, it is the particularities of this case that are important, not the gender of those involved. Maybe it is just me, but seeing the hypocrisy of the right wing press exposed in such a dramatic and embarassing way is always going to bring a smile to my face, given as it seems that no one got badly hurt. From what ive seen of the morning papers (including the Sun) it looks like most of them agree. Finally, I dont think this case or people's reaction to it is going to have a big impact on sufferers of 'proper' domestic abuse. I wont pretend to know much about the subject, but it seems at least to me that it has more important factors behind it than the coverage of what seems to have been more of a spat. Media coverage may well play its part , but I think to use this minor case as an example of what is probably a much wider and more fundemental malaise is to trivialise it.
  5. Maybe she brought Blunkett back with her, and ross wasnt keen. So she punched him in the face. And he called the police. Sounds plausible to me.
  6. fair point - but I think at least part of the reason men are scared of reporting it is because of actors like ross kemp and the programmes he appears in making out that 'hardness' is really important for men. For example see previously mentioned Ultimate Force where Ross punches female hostages in the face to stop them screaming, and the other mitchell brother in 'Britains Hardest' - tagline "Are you Hard?.... Or are you just soft?". Now that is funny
  7. Well obviously not as she hasnt made an acting 'career' out of being 'hard', and he isnt editing a dreadful tabloid newspaper running a campaign against domestic violence. Though as I said, I probably still shouldnt find it as funny as I do. I think it is in part down to seeing Kemp in the hilarious Ultimate Force series - for me everything he does is funny now.
  8. Yeah Rebekah Wade was News of the World editor when they published that list of 'paedophiles' and encouraged people to hunt them down in mobs. Problem was, paedatricians started getting attacked, and one guy got death threats cos he was on the list for sleeping with a 15yr old when he was 16. Nice woman.
  9. This just came up as breaking news on the BBC News website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4403026.stm Obviously, she is innocent till proven guilty, but it raises a few questions. Firstly it seems likely Ross Kemp reported it to the police, so looks like the end of that marriage. Secondly, the Sun is going to find it pretty hard to keep condemning violent and yobbish behaviour if its editor is attacking her husband. And this aint going to help Ross Kemp maintain his macho hard man image either. Really I shouldnt find this as funny as I do, but I can think of a lot less deserving couples
  10. Anyone know if theres a pub in Sheffield that will be showing the game on Saturday? - kicks off at 1pm but its not on Sky Sports. I remeber watching it at the old grindstone a couple of years ago on some dutch channel, but I dont even know what itll be on this time
  11. There was a post on here a while ago that had a link to a website that listed all the sizes of existing and proposed buildings in sheffield. Not sure what the address is but im sure you can find the link if you give it a search
  12. Ok thanks everbody for your help - Im going to need another couple of posts before I can pm, but what ive been sent so far has been really useful
  13. well im not sure if this will still be helpful, but to get to Station Road (if its for training im guessing its Brockwood Park) you do get the 30, which you can catch all along West Street, by the top of the moor or on arundel gate (not sure which part). Alternatively you can get the 52 which should take you past the bottom of station road, eventually.
  14. There was a thread on here some time ago about Arabic lessons in Sheffield - anybody know if there are any still going on and where i can find out about them?
