  1. Take some redbull. It's gets pretty slow in the middle. It's still better than Origins though.
  2. I worked for Aagrah briefly a few years ago. Granted they have a central kitchen but it is only lamb & chicken that is prepared there. All of the sauces are made on site by the main kitchen chefs. The main reason is the viability of it and it ensures what you taste in one restaurant is the same as another. It would cost them a fortune in manpower & wages to have chefs in all day waiting for meat to marinade. Anything with a fresh element like sauces, salads, vegetables etc.. is all done on site. Marinading is done centrally from meat for their own halal certified butcher. I wish them all the best on the new site. It's good to see family owned businesses going from strength to strength.
  3. I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure i agree with the student having more disposable income then ever comment. Just take a look on west st during the week. A ghost town compared to when i was a student. Very few of them seem to come out early these days. The indie kids will probably love the place if/when it opens. I expect a fair bit of price moaning though. How late the license is will make or break it i think.
  4. Fitzwilliam & west (old bar 23) is good value and nice atmosphere. I've been during the week a few times for their happy hour. British food and steaks if that's what you're looking for.
  5. I appreciate it seems odd but it's more to do with the amount of stock that we need to carry on site to cover all of these vouchers whilst still being able to effectively serve customers without vouchers. With the snacks that were going out we only have very limited storage space for them as we don't have kitchen space and only have a small amount of refrigeration in our back area. Unfortunately the new management and owners have had to do vouchers on a booking only basis. The deal that went out was not an ideal and workable deal unfortunately which has probably done more damage than good. Like i said though, people will get refunds on their vouchers. The manager spent a lot of time on the phone with Groupon to make sure that this happened so people would not be left out of pocket. If anyone is to read this thread and realise they have an expired voucher I would recommend trying to get a refund. otherwise Groupon keeps all of the £12 (or whatever was paid). The bar doesn't get a penny unless it has your voucher to redeem themselves so it doesn't benefit at all. If anything we get annoyed people and bad press.
  6. When was this? The bar changed ownership around 2-3 months ago and since then it has been a booking only basis which is in the terms and conditions on the voucher. I work in La foret and we have only accepted vouchers from people that have booked in. It has been arranged with Groupon that anyone with a voucher who has not been able to get booked can get a refund on their voucher. From what I understand Groupon rarely give refunds after the first 7 days of purchase. We have done our best to accommodate as many vouchers as we can but due to christmas bookings and opening times over christmas and the new year availability has been limited, especially the closer it got to the expiry date with people realising they ran out soon. I can only apologise to people who have not been able to get booked in but as I mentioned, Groupon will refund the voucher so you won't be out of pocket.
  7. It's not closed. It's just not open through the day.
  8. La Foret in Leopold Square do venue hire. It's 150 capacity and very reasonably priced. facebook.com/LaForetSheffield
  9. I'm not sure what incident you're on about to be honest. I do remember the road closed by the police at christmas time though. I heard on the grapevine that the investors decided to retire and the doors haven't opened since. Shame really.
  10. Sheffield just doesn't seem to have a great late night drinking culture which is a shame. Hopefully that starts to change. Where would you prefer to see a late bar? What sort of place would you regularly go to?
  11. It's had a bit of rebranding and I heard it's under new management. I've not been in yet but i'm interested to see what's different. Excuse the poor link but I've not made enough posts yet to put on proper links. sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=736212
