Bus From Hillsborough To Northern General Hospital
hillgirl replied to FIRETHORN1's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
H1 still running 10 minutes and 40 minutes past the hour opposite Hillsborough Leisure Centre. From Clock tower back it leaves on the hour and half hour. Back at the Leisure Centre at 10 minutes and 40 minutes past the hour then on to the Hallamshire. -
No Star walk now Pete, it was always on Whit Tuesday, sadly no more. I think it was replaced after with the Sheffield Marathon. No student Rag week either so no Boat race. We copied the Star Walk too Rollypolly. It was cheap entertainment.

Pete perhaps you could alter the thread title to Happy memories of Hillsborough or Happy memories of Regent Court. It might catch the eye of people you are trying to reach. Good luck

W.J Patchett resided during some part of his marriage at 4 Crofton Avenue. Around Hillsborough and lower Walkley if you look on pavements around these areas Patchetts name can be seen on sanitary grates. He and his brothers built several clumps of houses in these areas. A local history book ..At home In Hillsborough , Loxley, Wadsley by Pauline Bell gives a very good account of the Patchett family. You might find this helpful.

You are right Padders, an absolute legend. RIP Stan. Can anyone follow in his footsteps.

Mel was a true Yorkshire man. His knowledge of his county and his love for it was immense. He leaves a wonderful legacy in his books and the talks he gave. RIP Mel.

Arcadia Cinema In Hillsborough
hillgirl replied to alexander874's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Like Alexander and Old Tup I was born and raised in that area and was unaware of this place. Though well before I was born I never heard about this before. Thanks Sadbrewer for solving this mystery. Heard previous generation of relatives talking about a permanent fairground with boxing matches and Strongmen competions in the bottom of Hillsborough Park where the running track is at the top of Hawksley road and at the back of Hawksley Avenue. This would be around that time too. -
So sorry and sad to hear this news Jay. Lex you were an amazing support and you must be gutted to read this as all Bob’s friends on the forum will be. R.I.P Bob, and Jay I offer you condolences and I hope people in need will follow your advice. So sad.

Think Padders is right the Marathon became more popular. Also where it lost out was it was always on the old Bank Holiday “Whit Tuesday” and was family entertainment.

Thanks for information will look at that tomorrow.

Thanks for this, can I ask what camera you are using? These images are sharp and clear. Our weather station is down at the moment but hoping to put this right soon.
