  1. The figures quoted for duty free from EU to the UK in this thread are way out
  2. The second and third part of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman report is out today, Thursday 21st March 2024. Reminder: This is not about the unfairness of equal pension age for men and women. That was agreed in 1985. This is about the decision imposed by the coalition Government to accelerate the catch up time with insufficient warning for working women to replan their retirement. This only affects women born in the 1950s who expected and knew that their state pension age would increase from 62 to 66 in manageable incremental stages for which they could plan for. Instead, the WASPI argument is that they had insufficient warning to do this.
  3. The unelected leaders of sects always claim to speak on behalf of all those who identify with that sect. Nowadays obedience and adherence to 'religious' practices is a minority sport even among those who class themselves as 'belonging'. People who 'belong'/'don't belong' mostly tolerate other views but there should be no requirement to 'respect' the views of unelected leaders of sects and letting involving them in deciding or influencing what others can and cannot do. It is not that long ago when Christians wanted to use the Law to stop other Christians from working, voting, being paid. shopping, living where they want, having a pint, reading books/films, having sex, having fun etc.
  4. Not many people would recognise that there is such a thing as a traffic lights+burger signs+climate 'bandwagon'.
  5. An example of how a 'machine' can be better than a human: I would never expect a 'human' to know, nor would I expect to know the quickest/cheapest way to get from London to Sheffield this Sunday. As there is no direct service there are a dozen permutations and only one flexible/under three hours/under thirty pounds. I can and do buy split tickets at the station but I would not ask them to provide a range from which to choose. I also do not need to provide a copy of NRCoT to prove the validity of a journey when buying a combination of tickets. The staff at Sheffield are very good but they cannot be expected to know all the ins and outs of travel and ticketing. On the other hand a Sheffield machine cannot sell me a Derbyshire Wayfarer bus and train rover from where it is valid, but the one in Bridlington can( so can Meadowhall) but you cannot use it from either. We cannot do without either and I would choose a provider that offers face to face human support but not necessarily use. I am the customer and I want........ otherwise I will.... . Fill in the blanks.
  6. Many can convert ever penny into 2.2p or more You need to earn 1.3p to keep 1.0p. (Tax and NI). If you have a mortgage, loan, credit. pay in instalments etc, paying off early that penny could be worth a hundred times.
  7. Actually happened in the UK during the steel strike in 1980. Those 'locked out' by BSC management were also unpaid and some of the salaried staff went to their bank for loans backed by their unpaid 'month on lieu' salary slip. After a meeting(on the impact of the strike)between Tory ministers and Bank chiefs, several banks coincidentally sent out threatening foreclosure notices. Of course over the years UK Governments have restricted how citizens spend their money, most recently Brexit.
  8. Since when has it been legal to block cycle lanes with parked and queuing cars? There is no requirement to use cycle lanes.
  9. As advertised a appropriate TravelMaster single/return/season ticket/pass/card/e-ticket is/will be available on Tram, Bus, Machine, App etc
  10. Secretary of State for Scotland -Alister William Jack. Secretary of State for Wales-David Thomas Charles Davies.
  11. The English MPs in the English dominated UK Parliament voted to create the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly and whatever they do/don't do in Northern Ireland. Nothing can happen without the say so of the English MPs in the English dominated UK Parliament, so if you want the 'same' as Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland then ask the English MPs in the English dominated UK Parliament, why? Perhaps one of the UK's problems is that the too many people in England thinks that the UK is is an island surrounded by the sea! Perhaps too many English think they need to pay to use their free national museums and galleries and two? million 5-21 year old Scots enjoying free bus travel across Scotland is swamped by the numbers in London and Merseyside.
  12. You doctored the graph by adding to it and failing to acknowledge that thus giving the impression that this was the work of the ONS and the BBC and used to support your Covid beliefs. Unlike your biased doctoring, the article from the BBC named the three major influences -Covid, Brexit and Ukraine. You failed to mention Brexit all and the Ukraine date was the date of the second invasion and ignored build up from 12 months previously.
  13. The thread is not about Covid and "... money for the state pension......" it is about when an increasing number people dependent only on State Pension find themselves goes through the Personal Allowance threshold and paying income tax. Doctoring is when a document or data is changed, manipulated or altered to give the unreliable, false misinformation as you did. Doctoring a graph by 'adding' your economic theory and removing the other two major factors attributed in the article by the Bank of England boss which you ignore(Brexit) or misinform(impact on Russian threat of invasion 12 months earlier.
  14. Another poor attempt to pollute unrelated threads with your beliefs. You should acknowledge that the original graph has been doctored to mislead readers into thinking that The Office for National Statistics and The Guardian are linked the data with Covid alone. We all know that the build up in preparation for the Russian invasion had been began a year earlier and how that impacted on all energy prices and the that senior financial advisors were commenting on the inflationary impact of Brexit. To correct your bias, here is the title of the article, the original graph and a link to the article: Brexit adding to cost-of-living crisis, Mark Carney says Published 4 November 2022
