Sheffield FC and Hallam FC, the world’s oldest football clubs, are set to reignite their historic rivalry in front of a sold-out crowd at Sandygate, the world’s oldest football ground. The Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup quarter-final will mark the first competitive match between the two sides in over a decade, drawing phenomenal interest from fans both locally and globally. Unprecedented Ticket Demand Hallam FC chairman Richard Pillinger described the demand for tickets as "phenomenal," with all 1,336 tickets selling out weeks in advance. A final batch of 160 tickets released last Friday sold out in under an hour. Despite offers to move the fixture to a larger venue, Pillinger insisted Sandygate was the only fitting location. “A lot of people want to come to the oldest derby at the oldest ground. That’s where it needs to be,” he said, noting that Hallam could have easily sold 4,000 to 5,000 tickets if capacity allowed. Sheffield FC Manager Reflects on the Historic Occasion Sheffield FC manager Vill Powell, who scored in the last competitive clash between the two sides in 2012, said it was an honour to be part of this historic moment. Powell, who grew up in Wincobank and works for Sheffield City Council, added: “It’s going to be a special day. The atmosphere will be rocking, and I’m expecting a really good game of football.” Powell’s unique connection to the rivalry – having played in the last match and now managing his team for this one – underscores the significance of the occasion. Hallam Players Relish the Moment Hallam goalkeeper and vice-captain Hugo Warhurst, a Mosborough native and former Sheffield United scholar, described the match as a homecoming for football. “Growing up around here, you can’t really escape the fact that football started here. The history has always been there; it’s instilled in you watching football in this area,” Warhurst said. The 24-year-old, who works as a manufacturing operative, is preparing for a busy day, with a 5:45 am shift before heading straight to the match. “Football will be coming home for a day. The history of the game, it’s undisputed—it belongs to these two teams that are going to be having it out on the 14th,” he added. A Rivalry Rooted in Football History According to historical records, Sheffield FC was founded in 1857, making it the world’s oldest football club. Hallam FC followed three years later in 1860, and their home ground, Sandygate, holds the distinction of being the oldest recognised football ground. The first meeting between the two sides took place 165 years ago, with Sheffield FC winning 2-0 in front of a large crowd. Tuesday’s match promises to be another memorable chapter in this storied rivalry, as the two clubs prepare to once again showcase the roots of the beautiful game. With the historic rivalry renewed and football fans eagerly anticipating the clash, this match is not just a competition—it’s a celebration of football’s origins in the Steel City. Same date 10 years ago they had a crowd of 60.

This was the furthest Hallam had reached in the FA Vase; the previous record was the 4th round. To go out on penalties was a sickener, but to force the game to penalties was an achievement, Heroes all, Boldly going where no Hallam team had gone before. And attracting good gates for that level. Ten year ago they were lucky to get triple figures. Well played Hallam! p.s. They're at home Tuesday night.

WHAT AN ATTENDANCE 1287 Spectators today watched Hallam against Lincoln United in the 5th round of The FA VASE at The Worlds Oldest Football Ground.

Hello, I am a journalist at Sheffield Hallam University and I am looking for some Hallam FC fans (or people who have attended their games this season) to talk about their experiences during this fantastic season. All you have to do is answer some of these questions in the thread below and where comfortable and (where possible and comfortable to) leave your name so I can quote you. What do you think winning the title means for the fans and the community? There’s been a real increase in attendance with 1179 attending the last home game of the season. What effect do you think that’s had on the atmosphere and the performance of the team? If this is the first season of you attending what motivated you to come down to Hallam and give it a try? If you've been around a bit longer why did you choose to start coming to Hallam and what does this title mean to you? What’s been the lowest moment of the season for you? What’s been the best moment of the season for you? (I think I know that one for most people but I’d still like to know) Looking ahead to next season what do you think Hallam’s chances will be in a new division and what do you think should be the aim for the club in the long run? I look forward to reading any responses

They’ll be at the ninth level next season, so four divisions below National League. -

Well done Hallam, at least one promotion for the city. Just sorry to see that the non-league structure is aping the EFL nonsense and Division One is really Division Two. -
As of Tuesday evening, Hallam FC are virtually over the line to become champions of the Toolstation Northern Counties East Football League Division One. By beating Worsborough Bridge Athletic tonight by 4 goals to 0 they pulled six points clear of their nearest rivals, North Ferriby with only two games each left to play. I doubt it will come down to goal difference as although North Ferriby have a goal difference of 61, this pales into insignificance when compared to Hallam's. The third goal tonight put Hallam's goal difference into three figures. Hallam's goal difference is currently +101 from 38 games. The last two games of the season are against the bottom two, Clipstone, who are as good as relegated, in a match at Sandygate this Saturday and then they are away to Teversal who are already down.

Took my lad today, Hallam where 2-0 down at halftime and came back to win 3-2 and had a man sent off, well worth the £5 paid and it was good to see 1 team in blue & white win this weekend

Still the Bar at Hallam fc not bad prices tbf
-
Whereas Sheffield Club has the FAB Coach and Horses adjacent!
-
Sadly not! The historic Plough pub (which overlooks the ground) is still shut. The other 2 Crosspool pubs aren't great but would do the job at a push. The Sportsman is the nearer and better of the two: https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1519048 Or go to Broomhill for a drink (Itchy Pig, York etc.) and catch the 51 bus (5 mins bus ride).

Is there a decent amount of boozers to sup in before the game?
-
Agree, I enjoy going from time to time. Shame that Sheffield City Council don't think it is worth promoting the fact that football as we know it, was invented here.
-
Agree. Sheffield Club average nearly six goals a game this season, scoring 21 in 7 themselves. FA Trophy against high-flying Prescot Cables should be good on Saturday!
-
I've started to go a bit more to Hallam fc games its a lot cheaper than swfc? but I really enjoy it .its a real nice friendly ground and nice to stand and watch local football whatever the result No over paid players and players seem to play with a lot more passion on pitch ! I'd recommend it to any football fan to go to a few games when they can

Yes,good luck to Hallam FC tonight, hope they can do it,had a really good night up at their ground last autumn, and also saw Grimsby at Dronfield the day before that game, not a bad team although I was surprised to hear they had made the play offs.
