  2. Sheffield FC and Hallam FC, the world’s oldest football clubs, are set to reignite their historic rivalry in front of a sold-out crowd at Sandygate, the world’s oldest football ground. The Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup quarter-final will mark the first competitive match between the two sides in over a decade, drawing phenomenal interest from fans both locally and globally. Unprecedented Ticket Demand Hallam FC chairman Richard Pillinger described the demand for tickets as "phenomenal," with all 1,336 tickets selling out weeks in advance. A final batch of 160 tickets released last Friday sold out in under an hour. Despite offers to move the fixture to a larger venue, Pillinger insisted Sandygate was the only fitting location. “A lot of people want to come to the oldest derby at the oldest ground. That’s where it needs to be,” he said, noting that Hallam could have easily sold 4,000 to 5,000 tickets if capacity allowed. Sheffield FC Manager Reflects on the Historic Occasion Sheffield FC manager Vill Powell, who scored in the last competitive clash between the two sides in 2012, said it was an honour to be part of this historic moment. Powell, who grew up in Wincobank and works for Sheffield City Council, added: “It’s going to be a special day. The atmosphere will be rocking, and I’m expecting a really good game of football.” Powell’s unique connection to the rivalry – having played in the last match and now managing his team for this one – underscores the significance of the occasion. Hallam Players Relish the Moment Hallam goalkeeper and vice-captain Hugo Warhurst, a Mosborough native and former Sheffield United scholar, described the match as a homecoming for football. “Growing up around here, you can’t really escape the fact that football started here. The history has always been there; it’s instilled in you watching football in this area,” Warhurst said. The 24-year-old, who works as a manufacturing operative, is preparing for a busy day, with a 5:45 am shift before heading straight to the match. “Football will be coming home for a day. The history of the game, it’s undisputed—it belongs to these two teams that are going to be having it out on the 14th,” he added. A Rivalry Rooted in Football History According to historical records, Sheffield FC was founded in 1857, making it the world’s oldest football club. Hallam FC followed three years later in 1860, and their home ground, Sandygate, holds the distinction of being the oldest recognised football ground. The first meeting between the two sides took place 165 years ago, with Sheffield FC winning 2-0 in front of a large crowd. Tuesday’s match promises to be another memorable chapter in this storied rivalry, as the two clubs prepare to once again showcase the roots of the beautiful game. With the historic rivalry renewed and football fans eagerly anticipating the clash, this match is not just a competition—it’s a celebration of football’s origins in the Steel City. 3. Anyone remember the previous campaign - bring Club back to Olive Grove. They were taking donations from football clubs around the world! Then it went quiet....
  4. have sheffield fc loads of cash, cos if they pay that 5 grand as it says , its costing a none league loads of cash, plus why should they pay it? no response from SCC or sports england despite nearly 3 months over due.
  5. Hi bassett one and thanks for that, first time I have heard of that. The silence has me thinking !
  6. was it not a decision had to be made by oct 20th 2024 and the club had to pay £5,000 per month until a decision was made, with the big sports england saying they needed a proper plan, but nowt said after that,
  7. Latest news please if any and NOT A RUMOUR about the proposed new development on the Transport Ground The large sign erected has gone, could have blown down, can't deduce anything from that Why so long for a comment about the plans from the planning authority ? I said NO RUMOURS !
  8. Sheffield FC's first captain, John Charles Shaw has been recognised with a Blue Plaque. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn4x1k3y9zmo.amp
  9. but how long do your team have to pay the big monthly cash to the new ground owners until its built or until its passed as its a lot of cash.
  10. Lets hope for news soon. If permission is granted, it will still be a long process and zero chance of 2025 season imho. Currently, the Coach ground is in good good repair. A few years ago, it looked like they were running it down , ready to move but money has been spent and it looks decent. Not the pitch tho!
  11. You said that Sheffield FC are the oldest not the first - their own website states that they are the first (for which they have zero evidence BTW)
  12. Yes, why? They received FIFA order of merit for this achievement
  13. i have been told its sports england thats the problem as theres nowhere for cricket and as chair of friends of greenhill park we have not been advised and if the cricket went there as the main gates are not allowed by law to be locked , due to h&s and a private house in the park, the only way would be to fence the proposed cricket area off that means the public would not be allowed to use that area, i am sure the public would have to have a say in that, so they are approx 2 months late making a decision ect, cannot see it started soon.
  14. For those that are unware: Sheffield Football Club submitted a Planning Application to develop the Meadowhead Site in March 2024. Their vision is here: SHOW YOUR SUPPORT: Full Planning Application Submitted to Sheffield City Council | Sheffield FC The application and associated documents can be found here: https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=SANSBONYK4M00 Sport England was one of the consultees and have submitted their statuary objection in July 2024. This (12 pages) can be read here: 24_00884_FUL-SPORT_ENGLAND_31.07.24-2181296.pdf The agents response to Sport England's objections are here: 24_00884_FUL-AGENT_S_RESPONSE_TO_SPORT_ENGLAND_COMMENT-2171210.pdf Interesting to note that they claim that Sheffield FC have been subsiding the Transport Club to the tune of £5,000 per month. Council Planning Officers will have to work through all the documents and prepare a report to go before a Planning Committee of councillors with recommendations to refuse, approve, approve with conditions etc. An agreement to extend time for determination of the application until 18th October 2024 had been approved but it is reasonable to be expecting something by now.
  15. has anyone heard of the outcome of the sports of england complaints, i have heard util thats sorts nowts going to happen so rules out a new ground for 2025? anyone heard anything out of intrest?
  16. Sheffield Club are the `oldest` not the `first`; confused branding. Club are the oldest team still playing having started in 1857. Scottish claimants like `the football club` ceased existence. That make sense?
  17. According to the Independent, the world's first football club was set up in Edinburgh, years before Sheffield F. C. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/edinburgh-world-first-football-team-b2662545.html

  19. My interest in SF FC stems from the fact I live close to the proposed development. Why don't the club get some exposure in both the Sheffield Star and on Radio Sheffield i.e. match results, or am I both blind and death ?
  20. as it stands its used for stolen/illegal cars/bikes to run around, dog owners let there dogs use it as a toilet, also its boggy because the drainage needs replacing and its used for football and cycles to run around on , there as i say 11 entrances inc a vehicle one all open 24/7 so unless you fenced it and made it members only the surface would be messed up within days, if you do fence it it removes a area that decent folk use to sunbath ect in summer, so the locals would not benefit unless there was something added to the play area. plus as chair of the friends of greenhill park i know, this still exists sorry i thought it was closed as a group, the only time the police would let us close the drive in gates, we could not close any other was at festival time for 1 night, providing we had a steward in the park over night to open if needed as the police state the park cannot be locked to vehicles as if a person gets hurt they need access, but bikes /people can enter anytime 24/7 as well, when it was used with a pavillion in the 50s people were more respectfull and there was great matches played there and some top tennis games as well and as for the park being adjacent to the transport ground i take it some people have strange imagination. not saying impossible but theres a lot to be considered.
