South Yorkshire Youth Dance Company are hosting a collection of masterclasses for you to get involved in throughout May! These masterclasses will cover a range of techniques and styles for you to try out and are open to anyone, aged 11 – 19 years, living in South Yorkshire!
Sam Underwood - Breakin’
Date: Sunday 15th May 2022
Time: 1pm – 4pm
Venue: Barnsley College, Honeywell lane, S75 1BP (sports village)
Bio: Dance can play an important role developing our physical and mental wellbeing, all whilst having fun. In this workshop, we will explore and express who we are as dancers, establishing a positive mentality for navigating the creative tasks involved. Routines, trick techniques and dance battles will provide the opportunity for growth whereby each dancer can explore their own process of learning and expression in a safe, encouraging environment.
Sam’s practice includes street styles like Breaking & HipHop which provide plenty of freedom to channel your inspiration from anywhere. Whatever your style you will be welcomed and encouraged to showcase and enjoy yourself.
Greentop Circus - Aerial arts
Date: Sunday 22nd May 2022
Time: 1pm – 3pm
Venue: St Thomas Building, 74 Holywell Rd, Sheffield, S4 8AS
(Limited spaces due to aerial equipment so book fast!)
Bio: Greentop is Yorkshire’s leading circus centre and has over 20 years’ experience as the region’s circus centre. Whether contemporary or traditional, Circus has been described as the Opera of the eye, the greatest show on earth.
Over the last 30 years, circus has been discovered as an engaging artform of huge social benefit.
Our ariel classes are associated with fun and is an enjoyable discipline to learn. With such a huge range of activity, there is always something to succeed in. Circus is where sport and arts intersect and so provides a route to performing through the development of skills.
Mulembus D'Africa - African movement/fusion
Date: Saturday 28th May 2022
Time: 1.30pm – 4.30pm
Venue: Croft House, Sheffield
Bio: Angelina Abel is an experienced African Fusion dance teacher born in Angola and established in Sheffield. The founder of Mulembas d'Africa and Mamawe Afropean dance festival, Angelina focuses on the primal power of movement as a medium of personal growth and social integration. Bringing you an energetic dance workshop, Angelina is a believer in the power of dance as ritual and as an unshakable / ancient medium for personal change, solidarity and social bonding.
Each masterclass will cost £5, or, sign up all 3 masterclasses for £12.
