I'd say that a good proportion of them actually come from Sheffield.

What is fascinating the people who visit Skegness or Cleethorpes have now become a modern Caricature of the old postcards but are living and breathing. It used to be the fat women bent over joke, now its the teenage mum's stretch marks on show, which i suppose in time will take its place in east coast seaside (or river as the case may be) history. Postcard artists take note where you saw the idea first lol.

As a kid, maaaaaany years ago, we often went to Cleethorpes by train for our summer hols (factory shut down). I remember my dad buying the Star while we were there. I was impressed that the Sheffield Star was such an important paper that it was on sale in such a far flung place as Cleethorpes. At the time i didn't realise that Cleethorpes was pretty much full of Sheffielders for those two weeks

Why anyone would willingly travel from Sheffield to Skegness for a 'holiday' is beyond me.

I don't really do holidays much but I guess Greece is nice if you don't want to travel out of Europe.

Bali, some Thai islands and the Seychelles. Not a big fan of the British seaside resort!

Do you go out of your way just to be pedantic for the sake of it? It's just a fun thread about where people like to holiday and you try to turn it into Question Time!

Anyway...

As a kid i loved Morecambe, like a little Blackpool but less fussy.
Love Torquay (my second home), Polperro in Cornwall (always try and get down for a week in December, lovely at chrimbo), like Skeg and Cleethorpes for a quick day out with little travelling and Blackpool for the illuminations just for the day.
Abroad...Benidorm (if you've not been don't slag it, it's not the Blackpool of the Costas, the old town is fab. Cyprus is also a fav.

BTW...I didn't realise SF had so many snobs! I bet the ones saying Skeg Vegas is this, that and the other never venture further than their back garden!
Yes it has a high proportion of Jeremy Kyle types, but at least these 'types' are giving their kids a holiday, which is more than i can say for many families who think they're above the Skeg/Cleethorpes.
Give a kid a bucket and spade when the sun is shining and it doesn't matter to them whether they're in Blackpool or the Bahamas!

Cornwall. Had the pleasure of visiting Blackpool for the day recently. A dump and constantly harrassed by blokes asking 'ladies where ya from?' or women shoving coins in our faces asking to read our fortunes... Skeggy is OK but all I see is amusements, cheap shops, a pretty grim looking beach and rides.
I like Filey/Brid though as destination a bit closer to home.
