Seeing as Sheffield now has no record shops left(HMV don't count,They're a DVD shop!) where can I buy Standing at the Skys Edge tomorrow. The supermarkets presumably won't stock it until it is in the charts.I can buy it from i tunes but I want something to hold! I doubt that Record Collector will be open on a bank holiday so what are my options?
I can only think that I'll have to buy it from i tunes and then buy a physical copy later.

I've gotta have it NOW (well, tomorrow)To be honest I think I'd rather drive to another town to buy it from an independant record shop than buy it from Amazon,so we don' end up with no record shops at all.
It's gonna have to be plan A,i tunes and then a real copy when Record Collector is open. It's a dear do !

Have you asked on the Richard Hawley forum ? Hawley should know which local shops will stock it.

That's my point. Apart from Record Collector,I don't think there are any local shops anymore.

Well I couldn't get Standing at the Skys Edge at Tesco yesterday. If they do stock new albums on their release day,it must only be dead cert, high profile commercial acts.Everything else has to prove its "saleability" by entering the charts before they stock it.

Got the Vinyl/CD/Booklet edition from HMV at Meadowhall around midday on Monday. Paid more than I needed to really but just had to have the real thing to hold and play immediately

And how good is it? Absolutely f ing brilliant

From what I saw on Jools Holland the other week it's a bit of a departure from his previous work and not a very good one at that. The songs he played were generic loud thrashy psychedelic rock, with little of the subtlety and melody of his previous work. Shame really, but perhaps he was stung by criticism that his last couple of album were a bit too similar.

I had the same thoughts after first hearing the single Leave Your Body Behind You on the radio and I deliberately avoided hearing any of the other album tracks until I had a chance to listen to all of them in full. Now I've played them all through a few times there is no way they can be lumped into a "generic loud thrashy psychedelic rock" category. Indeed, there is plenty of subtlety and melody, all backed up with lots of guitar For those of us who've seen Richard Hawley live this loud thrashy stuff is not new at all

Agreed - I saw Richard Hawley live at the Lyceum last year and was initially surprised by the "loud thrashy stuff", so while I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste, I think Sky's Edge is an outstanding album.

Glad you like it although you may need to check your body clock - he last played the Lyceum in October 2009 on the Trueloves Gutter tour

One of the best gigs I've been to for ages.

Tickets for his City Hall gig on the 23rd September go on sale tomorrow.
