I drive over Crookes on a regular basis and it really winds me up how many 52 buses I come across chugging slowly up the hill and back down again.
Quite often there are 2-3 in a row and one has passengers and the others either none or very few.

Is it just me or does anyone else have an issue with the number of 52 buses on the Road?

I used to drive the 52 route,it only take 1 or 2 to run late, and that's it they group together for the rest of the journey. Some of the drivers play the "ill wait behind him "game, and just let the late driver run even later, instead of going around the late bus to help out picking up the passengers.

Dont think it will ever change. its a 52 route thing the lads do.

The 52 is always full when the bus is around the Darnall area. It's a fairly long bus route.

I catch it from Handsworth into town and back everyday. Often busses drive by and can't pick people up as they are full.

There are only so many of them as they are profitable. If they were not, they would run less.

There could be a few more as every bus means less dependence on the motor car-you should be celebrating not moaning like an old lass.

To many !!! You must be joking, i was waiting 20mins for one at castle market on monday. Half of the people that got on in town got off on west street. There are other buses that go up west st you know, without clogging up one of the busiest services in sheffield. Better still why dont you walk.

When i lived there, double deckers were replaced by eager beavers but to carry as many passengers, 3 used to travel together! lol. Do eager beavers still run or are double deckers back?

competition like that will always benefit the customer so I cannot complain.

i have found parts of the 52 route very busy at certain times of the day and its nice to reduce waiting time.

Too many buses full stop. Buses are like a 'Jeremy Kyle' roadshow.

Competition never benefits the customer when one company puts up their prices and the other immediately follows suit. That smacks of a cartel and price fixing to me.

There are more then enough 52 buses but unfortunately the bottleneck that is High St means that no matter what the timetable is there will be times when you will wait 20 minutes without seeing a bus...then 5 turn up at once.

High St is a nightmare, too narrow, too much traffic and parked vehicles everywhere.

The bunching isn't as bad now that the Optio scheme means that passengers can board whichever bus turns up (which means that if First arrive at the stop first then Stagecoach don't need to sit there too - it can overtake).

The 52 must take a few hundred people in each direction in an average hour - if the buses weren't running then that's a lot of private cars clogging up the roads.

This will be about the 52nd thread for "too many buses on this route" and at the end of the day you watch 52s closely, they are well used. Granted their are a lot of buses, but there are 2 operators and it is a heavily used service on both ends.

For whatever reason - bad/defective bus, traffic, slow driving, knock on effect from one in front dropping... Start running late and the one behind soon catches up because they're that frequent but there will be twice as many passengers waiting. That's the reason for bunching, not normally that the driver doesn't know the route so he's following the one in front.

Competition on the 52 route goes back years. Both operators are working together now to provide a service together. Usually operators are just competing because they're in it to make profit and beat the competitor.
