If Evans is innocent then he should be allowed to appeal, he should be allowed to play football. The problem is that S2 is ignorant and nasty enough to presume he's innocent after a court and a jury has found him guilty. It's a really dark glimpse at his views.

At what point will you acknowledge his guilt? One court case obviously isn't enough. Two, three court cases? I don't understand it at all. Awful.
I hope that when s2 blade gets a girlfriend or maybe has kids, a daughter in fact, that he will look back on this and regret what he's been saying. He's blinded by the fact that Evans played football for his team and without him are going to possibly struggle to attain promotion, and in his mind nothing should get in the way of that, even rape!
This whole episode has frighteningly revealed how many sick people there are who walk amongst us in our daily lives.

It's a good question.

From what I'm led to believe it could be new evidence or a new witness.

Or, it could be they identified an issue in court proceedings.

No one is commenting at this time.

Does anyone know how long this will take?

I understand that it has to go to a judge/panel for approval first. At that stage he can apply for bail. Is that right?

If so, he could then be eligible to play for united.

So, could that happen before 5 May?

This may sound like a strange question, but, pending appeal, is he now Guilty until proved innocent?

Thanks - that was the answer I was looking for. Just an indication as to whether these things get processed in days, weeks or months.

I know trials take months, but appeals are different.

And don't let anyone else on here say thy weren't thinking it too!!

Not a chance of bail.
At this moment in time he's a guilty rapist serving his sentence. and it will stay like that for the next 5 years.

This appeal is a complete waste of time, the jury convicted 12-0 and even if they had been 95% sure he'd done it they would have to have found him not guilty. It has to be beyond reasonable doubt, i.e for the hard of thinking 100%!!!

The appeal is just to try and save face and appease the gullable and sick amonst us

I agree.

The appeal was inevitable. Not a chance of bail.

Because he panicked, thinking that the player concerned could be back on the pitch, playing (and scoring) before the end of the season, hence his mention of the 5th of May.

I doubt United would have played him anyway.
I don't they would want or need the negative publicity which would have surrounded such a silly decision.

I have sat on three juries that convicted 12-0,in fact i believe 11-1 or 10-2 (the least you can convict on) are quite rare,so i fail to understand the attitude adopted by some that 12-0 has some relevence to Evans' being more guilty than normal
What i would say is that guilty or innocent, the man has morals that would shame a gutter rat,he seems to suffer greatly from the modern malaise that footballers think themselves to be above normal mankind and the law of the land.
If nothing else comes of it,let's hope it has sent a pertinent message to all the other big time Johnnies

The thing I can't understand is, if he (or rather his legal team) thing there is grounds for an appeal based on whatever material they present...WHY on earth not use it in the original trial!!??? If material is that good to use at appeal, then surely it'd be worthy of using at trial in the first place? - Either way he was found guilty and, just to throw another angle in on this - am I the only one who thinks Sheffield United haven't done enough to distance themselves from having their name tainted?

You said, in relation to whether he was to appeal that

'no one outside of bladesmad knows' whether he would appeal.

Quite clearly, based on the bbc article, everyone, except the most dumb of dumbasses does know he will appeal.

So, I wanted to know how long this will take, because I don't want him lining up for united again this season.
