Thread will remain here.

He can launch an appeal on no grounds whatsoever, but if he were to do that the appeals court would refuse to hear it.

I have not read what his actual grounds for appeal are. His legal team may well not have made them public.

Can't understand the big fuss, he was always going to appeal.

I think it's a case of clutching at straws and with him obviously not being the brightest of fellas he will probably believe anything his misguided family, friends and in particular his girlfriend (who should have dumped him anyway for what he did to her) tell him.

He should be careful, he may end up serving even longer!

Thats a bit harsh as I heard he was rather clever and gave out the shirts for the other players. What exactly did he do to his girlfriend-was she in the room as well?

Probably thinks it's worth that risk if it gives him a chance of freedom.

If it did go to a retrial, would they be able to call McDonald as a defence witness?

His lawyers may simply be arguing a perverse jury, given that one person who had sex with a woman that can't remember anything, and claimed she had agreed to it, was found not guilty, and aother person who also had sex with the same woman, and also claimed she had agreed to it, was convicted.

Unless and until the exact reasons for his appeal are made public, I'm not sure what good it does to speculate.

It's an interesting one, from a legal standpoint; since Mcdonald was found not guilty and has to be regarded as completely innocent on all counts, then - were he to appear as a character witness - could they use his behaviour on that night against him? I don't know nearly enough about criminal law to answer that.

If I was a partner of someone who wishes someone convicted of rape 'good luck', I would be seriously disturbed.

McDonald was found not guilty, not that he was innocent.

Is it just me, or does this sentence not make sense?

I don't know all the facts. If he's guilty he's in the right place. If there's new evidence and he's released, I'll be happy for him and he can resume his career. Somewhere else though I hope.

By that logic then anyone found guilty could be innocent.
