This is a standalone unit (not in PC) right?

Change the output channel on the DVD and re-tune television to match (or use a scart)

Whats the model Number ???

assume this is a standalone recorder, not an computer external dvd drive. are you able to use the scart connection for playback? The channel 5 transmisions are very close to the rf frequency used on vcr's and dvd recorder rf outputs.

A quick glance at the manual for the next model up, yours doesn't appear to be listed, shows that the RF is a pass-thru only, and no signal from the player is sent down the co-ax.

I suspect that as the signal for channel 5 is weak anyway, the DVD recorder will be taking, say 50% of the signal for itself, leaving not enough for the TV.

Try unpluging the TV coax, and viewing channel 5 though the recorder over scart. If that picture is clear then I might just be right.

Monster cables may help reduce any loss from the coax, but if the signals not strong enough in the first place they wont help. I don't like the signal amps, as they just amplify everything, including the noise. You may need a new roof top antenna and downfeed, and you don't want to be doing a Rod Hull.

Good job we're all going digital in a few years.

Who Still uses RF pass through now adays?? o_0 -- That has surprised the hell outta me..

Yes though, I remember when Channel 5 was launched, there was a big thing about people's VCR's and such like being Close, so you had to get an engineer out to change them, (this was free of cause) - Im not sure how you'd do it on your model however im sure it must be possible....

But I would reccomend going for Scart, The resulting Quality is far superior to that of RF :\ -- even without the Channel 5 bleed-through.
