Hi,

I don't want to store photos in my laptop anymore, as it slows it right down and if it ever breaks down then that's it. I've heard about storing photos online, do you do that and what site would you recommend?

Thanks.

You must have an incredible amount of photos to slow your laptop down. There may be many other possibilities as to why your laptop is running slow.

There are many to choose from. The best known one will be Flickr ... I have been a member for 4 years now and have a pro account.

If you have a Live Mail (Hotmail) account you get a whopping 25GB of free storage on Windows Live SkyDrive and you could store your photos on there as well. Two backups are better than one.

Also Homepcbackup is good, 5 quid a month for unlimited data backup. it's automated as well so you set a schedule and what folders you want backed up and it does it all for you, keeping everything up to date.

Not heard of Homepcbackup.

I like Dropbox for syncing files. 2GB for free.

SugarSync offer 5GB free, but have not used it myself.

I have pictures on 2 computers and an external drive. hard to keep it all synced when you are as slack as I am! Aslo no use if you get seriously robbed or your house burns down!

Much easier to use homepcbackup - you upload them onto what ever computer you have HPCbackup installed and it automatically backs up your documents or what ever folder it is you have selected.

I really should set up an account!

So it is similar to Dropbox and SugarSync? I will have a look.

ETA: If I have looked at the correct website it does not appear to offer syncing of files just the backing up of files.

Is that one off promotion as I could not see the 50GB for free, just the 5GB?

Just noticed if you need desktop sync you need to pay.

I think it may have just expired , i signed up last week (via the andorid app) on a promotion and got a 50GB account for free

Edit:

Maybe you need to go via the App, it says it doesn't expire until the 23rd of march. Link

Still, looks good and 5GB for free is excellent ... shame there is no desktop sync.

Thanks! Guess what? I do not have an Android phone. Just my luck!!

If it offer isn't tied in to using the App, then I may use my Mum's phone and do it that way for a work around.

Yeah - that pretty much makes it useless for anything other than single file uploads.

Dropbox is much better in my opinion, and with a few referrals you can build your free allowance up quite quickly.

However, for my photos I store them

- On my laptop (full res)
- Backed up to an external HD (full res once a month I back up the new ones)
- Uploaded to Picasa (at 1600 pixel width)

The 50GB kicks in once you log in once via the app I think - but then just delete it. Still, without desktop sync its pretty useless.

I stored all my school work on Dropbox and found it invaluable as any documents I worked on at school would be synced on my laptop at home.

Never used Picasa. Will have a look. Thanks!

Yeah you can do that, the desktop sync is only available on the business package which is a shame, but still...50GB of free storage is pretty decent.

So install the app on my android phone, and set up an account using the google account that's linked to my phone? how do I then uploads 50gb of data from my laptop? What happens if I set up an account on my phone through the app but use my general email address instead of my Google phone one?
