Hi,

I have an old comp which has only 2 USB ports (type 1). At the moment I have my broadband modem and printer plugged into them. However I have a scanner that I want to plug in as well and sometimes a digital camera to download pics. I have my comp all neatly set up and it is a pain to unplug one usb to enable me to connect the camera and scanner. Is there a way round this?. I dont think my motherboard (if u can do this!?) will be able to take anymore as it is around 6 years old. Is there a splitter type of device that i can plug into a usb port and then run a few things of it?

Thanks in advance

make sure you get the 1.0 rather than 2.0

And get a powered hub. You can't rely on the USB ports necessarily providing the current required for the additional peripherals.

I think most USB hubs will handle 1.1 and 2.0. This one will and looks good value for a 7 port hub with a PSU and reset switch.

a bit more expensive from Maplin

I'd be inclined to use one of your PC ports for the hub but keep your modem plugged into the other one.

You may need to unplug everything but the hub when installing it so that it gets properly registered by the OS.
