old tup   30 #1 Posted February 26, 2012 I was just thinking how things have changed such a lot nowadays in the 21st century some for the better such as you don,t see kids walking about with their arse end hanging out no socks on inadiquate clothing on in the winter and no food in their bellies going to school on a morning,I saw a lot of these as a youngun believe me!.On the other side of the coin child safety, when we were kids in the 50s in the six weeks hols we were off first thing on a morning on our bikes,a tizer bottle of water, jam or potted dog sarnies a few pennies if you were lucky and we were off all day long. Our parents never worried about the things that worry mothers and fathers nowadays, child molesters and such,it never seemed as rife as nowadays.I,m glad my kids are adults now you hear so many horror stories,I believe they should bring back capital punishment if it was proved beyond doubt that anyone had committed the murder of a child!.Every week it crops up on the news somewhere ,things have changed since I was a kid no doubt about it!!. scousemouse   10 #2 Posted February 26, 2012 ..................the point here is 'beyond reasonable doubt'. I was all for capital punishment, but as I have got older, and because there have been several cases that have been proved years later that the person convicted wasn't the guilty party, bit late if that person has been hanged. What I do think is that life should mean just that. We should take a look at the American system, they don't mess about. Time is time. In this country is given a three year sentence, they are out in two or less. Where is the sense in that.?
 Share this content via...

Allen   38 #6 Posted February 27, 2012 I'm sure it happened back then tup. It just wanted reported so widely simply because we didn't have the same media to do that. It may have increased but that again is down to the media available (the internet, porn sites, etc)  Yes, times have changed and not for the better in that respect....but I do think parents are now often paranoid to the extent of not letting the youngsters out of their site. Shame really.
 Share this content via...

Strix   11 #9 Posted February 27, 2012 I'm sure it happened back then tup. It just wanted reported so widely simply because we didn't have the same media to do that.. If it was going to happen, it was going to be a well respected member of the community, so if a child tried whistle blowing then nobody would believe them. The threat from strangers was minimal as people didn't have cars for bundling or enticing victims into - so the answer to that is that we should reintroduce dire poverty so next to nobody can afford the luxuries that enable people to carry out these deeds
 Share this content via...
GrapeApe   10 #10 Posted February 27, 2012 Children are as safe now as they've always been. in fact probably safer than in the past because people generally acknowledge children's rights not to be abused.
 Share this content via...
