Really? It's probably what you yourself believe as well but sorry to say it is untrue, not a taxi driver myself but have been in trouble with the police myself and I can assure you they didn't fear being branded racist when dealing with me.

Maybe if they had been made aware of the problem (by you possibly?), then they could have dealt with the situation.

there as been a problem with taxis blocking the road at the midland station for years, however the leader of sheffield city council denied there was a problem on the radio recently she had never heard of it !

The reason for this (I'm not a black cab either) is they took away the big old taxi rank underneath the roof and made them queue single file outside, seeing as there's a list of BCs that have a permit for work there where else can they actually go? the council knew this but ignored it and hey presto we now have major problems entering the station, recently they have tried to stop non taxis picking up at the drop-offs due to the carnage that they have created.

SCC really need to look at themselves with how they've handled this because it's starting to affect everyone and I'm finding myself increasingly dropping people off at the Howard, hardly ideal on a wet rainy day when they are in a rush.

But Taxis still have a right to be there, the fact the Council ****ed up has made it a joke to get in and out.

Taxi's only have a right to the number of places for them , the problem is when the places are full they then spill out onto the highway.

It's the councils problem, they created the mess and let me tell you the Police won't get involved, Certain railway companies and the Council are trying to sort a solution out but I think it's a little late for this now.

They were stopping non Taxis from picking up at the 'drop off' area a few weeks ago to try and ease the congestion and make people use the free for 20 min car park, since then they have said they need better signage

Taxis will continue to park up because the rank it way to small for a station.

We are not bothered about the taxis in the ranks. Are they breaking the law?

Just ticket all those parked illegally and those obstructing the highway.

As far as I'm aware the Council are willing to let the black cabs park on the street due to the limited number of spaces in the rank, I think this is because the old rank was much more bigger. The police will only get involved if they have completely blocked the entrance and that never happens, it might be cramped and tight but it's never blocked.
