The other Sunday while on my travels to sister in laws we saw a fake police range rover. It was on queens street s2.
It was white
It had an LED slim line police flashing light on the roof
It had things in the back like road cones and day glow jackets as you see in motorway police cars
It also had the yellow and blue checker board all around it
99.9% a copy of a genuine police vehicle
The only thing different it had RESCUE where it should say police.
Is this right ? Can someone drive around almost in a police car without getting pulled ?

As long as the blue checker is non reflective its quite legal, if the blue cheker is reflective then its illegal.

When I was a kid some bloke who lived near to where I grew up had a replica American police car, look nothing like a British police car. The police made him take the lights off the roof even though they weren't functional.

Someone top of the hill around here has a matt black and white ford fiesta made to look like an American police car, it has police and 911 stickers and stuff on.

I saw a fake RESCUE vehicle last month. It was 99.9% identical except it had POLICE on it.

It will be a motorway rescue vehicle - quite a few construction companies have them

Was that the one on Spotswood Road? I was fascinated by that when I was a kid.

OP it's obviously not a 'fake police vehicle' as it doesn't say 'police' on it ...

Really?
Are you sure blue scotch-lite is illegal on non-police vehicles?
I'd be surprised.

No, I was brought up in North Yorkshire.
This car was built from an American car, I think the guy had a scrapyard and he'd built a few amazing customized American cars, we were always in awe of some of his creations.
You never know it might have been the same car he might have sold them on.

Mountain Rescue wouldn't be so crass and vulgar.

It may not be a police vehicle but whoever designed it and applied the mods has tried his best to emulate the look of a police vehicle. The owner might like the look, he may use it for work or just get a kick out of making people think its a cop car.
It's enough to make you look more than once in your mirrors if you saw it.

I think if it was just joe bloggs the police probably would have something to say. If it's a motorway rescue vehicle then I'd want it to look pretty damn official if I was getting out into 90 mph traffic to slow things down.
