Anyone else having problems with BT broadband cutting off suddenly and frequently? Also even when the signal returns, sometimes not strong enough to run the BBC iplayer.

It's BT running it slow to get people to take 'infinity' closely followed by numerous calls from BT trying to get you to buy it!

I have issues in S6, especially at the weekends and evenings when it is likely to be more busy. However I do expect the broadband to cope with iPlayer, SkyGo or even my Xbox for the amount I pay. I am considering leaving them at the end of my contract, due to it being so annoying.

Quite a few problems in S35 affecting not only BT customers but Sky as well. I am assuming that they are doing some sort of work down there. I know that the 02 mast has been faulty for about 3 weeks and thats near the exchange

Well if they are doing 'improvement' work then maybe it won't be a long term problem. But it's so annoying and so unreliable and is also worrying if you are trying to buy something or book a train etc.
We don't have 'infinity' - never heard of it. But do pay enough to expect a better service.
It's been happening to our neighbour in December when ours was running OK. But this month ours is diabolical.
Thanks for the info everyone

Woodchuck why the conspiricy theory Infinity is not available in S35 yet. SYorksDeano there are 4 exchanges covering S35 not 1 BT usually let you know when they do major upgrade work that will affect service. Adelai where in S35 do you live i live in Chapeltown and not had any problems.

The think is I have received a letter from Sky stating that they are doing work at the exchange, just can't remember the date

when I was on standard tel line boradband and my speed droped any where near 1.5mbps I was instructed by a mate who works for bt to call them up and demand that my speed was turned up at the exchange .
I was fobbed of loads of times but keep calling and complaining and some one will come out check all your lines and equipment . they can also go to your exchange and turn up your speed..think they call it B-raz or boud rate not sure
just out of intrest whats your speed now ? use this tester http://www.speedtest.net/

I'm with BT live in Grenoside and get massive connections problems. I apparently can't get infinity where I live and the maximum speed I get is 0.7mbps download. I also get regular disconnects.
You can however upgrade to the Government run broadband scheme that can run at up to 40mbps. www.digitalregion.co.uk is the website that will let you know about it. I haven't done so yet, purely for financial reasons.

Thanks - just tried that super fast new connection site and when I put our s35 postcode in it says it's not a postcode on their database - so take it we not eligible for that either. But thanks.
Good to know - in a funny way, that we are not the only ones in Grenoside having problems. Is it the Ecclesfield exchange we have to ring and question maybe, rather than BT?

Don't ring Ecclesfield or any exchange for that matter it won't work, just ring your service provider tell them your broadbands running slow and get them to test line if a line fault exists they will issue a job to Openreach to deal with it .

Adelai we can definitely get in in all of Grenoside, it would be worth phoning one of the companies and giving them all of your details, they've hooked up fibre optic to the exchange. I get the same error message on the site, but if it comes up it asks for my house number, and when I click on that on the dropdown box it says I can get it, I also talked with ask4 and they can provide it to Grenoside.
I've had many arguments over many years with various ISP's and all they will tell you is that you are getting the fastest most stable broadband they can provide. When I was with Orange I actually had to go without internet for 4 months with no explanation other than the fact they were "working on it" and had "escalated my request."
I got a straight answer out of a bloke working for BT in the fact that they won't be able to provide any faster service until they put their own fibre optic network in. Which I think for Grenoside is towards the end of 2013 at the earliest. It seems ridiculous that the fibre optic is in place, but because it isn't Virgin or BT's own fibre optic they can't actually offer the service to us.
