I hear the 'Subway' will be opening loads of new stores, and the politicians are kind of crowing about it. Are those jobs really going to ease unemployment. I think perhaps not. Would you choose to work in subway, for probably minimum wage.....weekend and all hours!....Nope...not me!

Ditto.
Minimum wage is better than benefits. Plus think of the staff bonuses!

They have also been happy with the fact Asda is setting more people on, I’m not sure whether its occurred to them that when Asda or Subway expand the likely consequence is that someone that offers a similar service will contract and may need to lay staff off.

Your attitude shows exactly what's wrong with country. If you are unemployed you should not have the right to choose which job you want to do, you should take whatever you're offered.

did it mention whether they get paid or not, as we have a government that supplies staff for £49 a week.

There's that much crap and grease in a subway sandwich that spitting in it would probably improve the flavour!

I presume that comment is coming from someone who 'does' have a job. "I'm alright Jack"...Yeah, I've got one too!....."Take any job offered?" I hope you remember that someday when you're less fortunate.

Well so would I. I have taken jobs before now, that I wouldn't normally dream of doing. But only as a stop-gap, knowing that it's much easier to get a job when you're employed than when you're unemployed!

Having or not having a job is nothing to do with good fortune, it's all about hard work, qualifications and experience. If you can't be bothered with any of that then it's your fault you're unemployed.
And yes, if I ever were unemployed I would take any job offered rather than spend all day in bed, living off benefits.

Did you happen to notice if it was 6000 full time jobs or 6000 16 hour/week jobs.
Because if the latter as tax payers we will be paying out a large fortune in tax credits and other benefits to enhance their wages to a level the employees can actually live on.

If you re-read the OP, I said "would you choose".....ie, would you choose to make a career at subway?

You should have made yourself clearer. If the choice was between working for Subway and working for someone else then no, I wouldn't choose Subway.
But if the choice was between working for Subway or not working at all, I'd choose Subway every time. Wouldn't you?

I confirmed that on an earlier post. But purely as a stop-gap. I've always worked...doing some jobs, I wouldn't choose to do. Collecting trolleys for Tesco, working the night shift in a trifle factory!.....Working in a milk bottling plant.....Yuk....but they all served a purpose, earned me some money, until I got a job doing my profession!

I suspect they wouldn't be full time jobs, but I don't know!

I'm with Mr Smith (post #6) on this. Surely there's a limit to the number of sandwiches a nation can eat, thus, more Subways opening is likely to lead to other sandwich shops losing business, laying off staff and perhaps closing. It's not so much extra jobs being created as much as a migration of workers from one retail outlet to another.
