Its a little old now, wont support 64bit, only Athlon/Athlon XP, XP 3200+ Is the highest you can get (2.2ghz)
but gigabyte are usually decent

Thanks for the advice, i have just bought a second hand pc with one of these motherboard's in as a second computer and it currently has a 1.5ghz processor, only cost me £70 but will probably buy a 3200+ eventually and put that into replace it, how easy is it to remove and install new cpu's as i have never done it before.

basically i bought this pc for £70 afew days ago.
AMD Athlon 1.4ghz processor
512MB memory, 40 gig hard drive, 32MB ATI rage graphics.
Basically i want to upgrade it to the maximum i can.
I know there maximum memory you can upgrade to is 1.5gb.
I want to upgrade the graphics to something like a radeon 256mb, i would like to upgrade to either a 100 or 200 gig hard drive, and put a dvdrw in etc.
Probably cost me a fortune to upgrade all this though lol.

For the money youd spend upgrading that, you might as well build a new system.

If its an athlon 1.4, and NOT an athlon XP, be careful, cause of the FSB Speeds, and the ram types, you may not beable to use an XP 3200+ in the board since they require a 200Mhzx2 FSB (400mhz) and yours might only be 133Mhzx2 (266mhz)

You'll have to get a processor of ebay, a 3200+ prices start at £100 and go up.
Assuming the board will take one
http://tw2005.giga-byte.com/MotherBo...ts_GA-7ZXE.htm
A 4x AGP slot, a bit slow nowadays. This one does what it says on the tin:
Sapphire Technology Radeon 9550 256MB AGP DVI-I VO
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=36JD
Fwap the memory upto 1Gb, http://www.crucial.com/uk £65 per 512Mb
Once youve done that, throw it away and get yourself a new one.
Athon 64, motherboard, video, and ram?
1Gb (2x512Mb) RAM DDR400 : £60
Athlon 64 3500+: £150
Video (above): £42
Motherboard GA-K8NSC-939: £55
I expect you'll need a new case as well. £40, and a monitor, 19" TFT £200, keyboard & mouse £30, and some speakers £20.
Sorted.
Other configurations are available, prices subject to change, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for that info, so basically if i spend £350-£400 i could build quite a reasonable pc then?
The only problem is that i could not build it myself, i know how to install hard drives, memory, graphics, cards, drives and network cards and everything but not things like the motherboard, cpu and fans etc.

I have a similar board, and if my understanding is correct it does not support anything over a Athlon XP2600+ thoroughbred13u
the ones above this dont work on the motherboard you have... could be wrong though
