Hello everyone!

Tried this query on the hairdressing thread, but I got lost in the discussion I think! I'd be really grateful for any help

I moved to the area a while ago and have finally taken the plunge and am looking for a new hairdresser. I have been going to the same hairdresser for 10 years, so this is a pretty traumatic event, as the last time I went anywhere else they totally mucked it up! I know there are a lot of places recommended on here, but I'm still not sure, so was hoping someone might be able to help.

I don't get my hair cut very often, so don't mind if it's expensive, but it needs to be a really good place which will listen to what I want. I know what suits me, and my problem with lots of places I've been in the past (especially trendy ones!) has been that they have a very clear idea of what THEY think would suit you and they ignore what you actually want. Basically, I'm a coward and very unadventurous, hence the plea for help! Can anyone recommend a stylist who really pays attention to what you say and is capable of doing a really good cut for fine, medium length hair?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions! Thanks so much.

Any of the stylists in Wigs and Warpaints in Sheffield city centre. Not the cheapest but the best. They have won numerous awards and in my opinion deserve it.
They are all great but I personally would recommend Gemma.
I have very fine hair just below my jaw and Gemma is fantastic at dealing with it. She listens to exactly what you say and always does it how I ask.
It is a trendy salon and I understand your concerns about this (I have had similar traumatic experiences) but Wigs and Warpaints are an ecception. Trendy but do exactly what you ask!

That sounds really great, thanks so much for the idea! I don't suppose you know anything about Conrad Blandford (used to be Hair 1877) have you? That's the other one that someone mentioned, but I can't find anyone who's tried it!

Thanks again for the fab help :-)

I always go to Lookin Gud, in S5. It is a great salon and they always look after me and my family. They listen to us (trust me - I feel just like you) and have great people skills. They make me feel very comfortable and relaxed every time. Would not go anywhere else! Superb... 0114 2457000

Hi
I haven't used Conrad Blandford so really can't comment.
I used several salons in Sheffield but after having a few decent cuts I would have a disasterous one and then move on.
Because my hair is so fine, a lot of people don't seem to know how to cut it. They either don't do enough to make any difference, or they do one snip too many and I end up looking bald! It only takes one snip of the scissors on my hair to make a huge difference!!!
The only other salon I would recommend is the Cutting Club...slightly less expensive than wigs and warpaint, but less 'trendy'.
Personally though I would stick with wigs and warpaint and you shouldn't go wrong.
Their stylists are listed slightly unusually, I go to Gemma who is classed as a "wig doctor". This is the equilvalent of a senior stylist. As a price example, a cut and finish with her is £45.00, although they sometimes do a discount for new clients. I've been going to her for a while and I'm always really pleased.
They have a pretty comprehensive web site that you could take a look at. Search for the name in google as I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put it in here.
