Went to see friend playing in a band at Moorfoot Tavern and saw some obvious cokehead take a look at a guy, go over and started to try to pick a fight with him (it wasn't me by the way) - noticed they legged it as the guy trying to pick the fight was on mobile presumably organising his hit-squad
Why were the police nowhere nearby or any doorstaff? There has been trouble there before and it's not a place i would normally go to anyway, and certainly never again. Has anyone else had problems there? (please merge with another thread if relevant)

The kind of incident you have described here has probably happened in countless pubs around the country, i would emagine the vast majority of punters in the moorfoot taven knew nothing of what happened and enjoyed the bands.
it's a bit unfair to tell people to 'steer clear' because you had a bit of a crap night.

Next time you're going out anywhere, give the police a ring and ask them to wait outside the pub - just in case anything happens to someone else near to where you're stood. They haven't got much else better to do and I'm sure they'd be happy to assist you.

It might have had something to do with once a year football fans being out cos it was Derby day. I've been DJing in the Moorfoot for about 8 months and never seen a fight there on a Saturday night, never a cross word and never a problem. The present landlady Cheryl cleared out the idiots when she took on the pub and it's actually a pretty decent boozer to be in now. Live bands on every Satuday night - not to be missed!

I think that you would all be eating your snide sarcastic words if it had been you had been in that situation. I was very close by but didn't want to intervene as the person who was trying to stir up a fight was getting more aggressive and irrational and I thought he might turn on me if i said something.
Isolated pub, no doorstaff and no police around - no wonder I have heard of trouble there before contrary to what is being implicated above.
If Cheryl thinks she hasn't got a problem anymore she obviously didn't get a problem there and then because the guy being threatened decided to leave.
I've been drinking in Sheffield pubs for years and hardly ever seen any trouble but at least there are bouncers to sort it out.
So if you're unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity of any potential trouble, don't be too offended when others make light of it.
And it's still a ****hole despite your cosy PC editing of my original title!

I would tend to agree though with the original poster - from my experience of the place I would stay well clear of it - on a few visits there it came across as an extremely rough down market place kept in an awful state with awful beer and surly staff who would ban you as soon as look at you if they didnt like the look of you or you reminded them of someone else they didnt like ... - can't wait for the Moor to be re-developed and this place razed to the ground ...

I too have heard all the scare story's about this place but in all the times i've been in there i've never seen any trouble whatsoever.
I believe i saw the incident that occured, but it was over pretty quickly.
You'll always get the occasional idiot in whichever pub you visit wander in and cause trouble.
It's just a matter of keeping your wits about you, and using your common sense.
As a friend of mine found out last year it dose'nt always turn out good if you intervene in someone else's argument.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Moorfoot. And I would feel a lot safer in a pub run by Cheryl than anywhere else. Why? Because she won't take s**t from anyone, and if you act up in her boozer then you are out. Great landlady and a decent boozer.
PBDMN you my friend are a gimp.

I think that it's quite easy to tell when someone is a "cokehead". When I used to go raving there was always a popular saying of "coke turns a w***er into an even bigger w***er".
In many ways alcohol is a "mirror to someone's soul", in that it can make happy people very affectionate, insecure people feel emotional, or aggressive people even more aggressive. As someone who's teetotal, I've always believed that there are certain people who shouldn't drink at all because of their personality type.
With coke this is even more true though. If you have someone who is already arrogant or aggressive, coke accentuates this to an unsafe degree. It can make this type of person genuinely believe that they have a god-given right to punch a complete stranger in the head for absolutely no reason at all. It sounds exactly like the sort of person the OP was described in his opening post, i.e. a cokehead.

I've Been Going In The Moorfoot For About The Last 6 Months And I've Only Seen One Incident Of An Unpleasant Nature.
That Was Due To 2 Blokes Who Cheryl Had Refused To Serve (As They Were Taking Their Drinks Outside).Seeing As They Weren't Prepared To Drink Inside,They Left,Cowardly Smashing The Window Where Buffy Was DJing. As It Was Double Glazed,Both Panes Didn't Break,But It Could've Been Nasty If They Had've Gone Through.
Needless,To Say,You Can't Blame Cheryl Or The Staff For This Incident. They Were Only Doing What Any Responsible Pub Should Do (Not Allowing Drinking In The Street).
Either Way,I Don't Think The 2 Blokes Have Been Back,So That's 2 Less Idiots To Worry About.

Thank you Daley, I knew someone would know what i meant.
As for being a 'gimp', whatever one of those is I'd rather be that than someone who seems to support the violent type like some of these replies seem to indicate (of course, this will be denied)
And roll on the redevelopment of The Moor, and if that means another theme pub then so be it, better than some dive run by rough and ready types you seem to think are so nice - actually I found the bar staff fairly rude and unpleasant, maybe it's cos I'm not a regular. Maybe the people involved in that incident weren't regulars either and that's why one of them was targeted for a potential attack

What did you do to upset the bar staff?
As I ran the entertainment that night, do I therefore take it that you consider me to be rough and ready?
