Also been looking at cameras for the Mrs and one word of advice - don't fall for the megapixel myth... On a typical point and shoot digicam the "sensor" that actually take the picture are tiny in comparison to something like an digital SLR, as a result when they up the resolution you end up with a picture that whilst bigger is often actually poorer quality simply because they are cramming to many pixels in - ideally more pixels need a bigger sensor to accommodate them but that increases cost etc. By all accounts 6 megapixels is more than enough for A4+ size printing, in that sense look at the quality of the lens, extra features and so on rather than just the resolution.
Cant really help with specific models as we've been looking at "bridge" cameras rather than pocket sized but have had a few Cannon Powershots in the past and they've been really quite good - our rather ageing 4 megapixel Powershot A85 still takes a half decent picture and we've printed at A4 with good results, again illustrating that the resolution is not the be all and end all.
