Did you not see the threads come up as suggested topics when entering your title??

anyways I'll start the ball rolling for you.

As a past pupil of Newfield I can highly recommend it (or could) but times do change and perhaps the school has gone downhill a little? Although I have friends who's offspring attend and hear of few problems with the actual school. Obviously like all schools you get problematic pupils so there will always be horror stories!

here's the ofsted reports......

Hi Gabby

My children started at Newfield a couple of years ago. They were one of the first in the new building. We moved away from that part of Sheffield but their time at the school was excellent. The new head teacher was ready to bring the school into the 21st century. We keep in touch with a few of our childrens' friends and they are enjoying the school and feel that it is moving in the right direction.

When making my decision I stayed away from the negative stuff and went to make an informed choice for myself by attending meetings etc. People hardly ever take the time to say nice stuff.

Hope this helps slightly.

Happy

I've nothing nothing constructive to say about Newfield I'm afraid. It might have improved from what it once was, but that doesn't mean it's good. Far from it.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mind me asking, have you worked in many Sheffield schools? How do you think it compares?

Worst of the lot. I'm sorry, I shouldn't really have posted on this thread. You asked if anyone had anything constructive to say. I personally dislike it when people drag a thread off topic and I've gone and it myself on this one. Apologies.

we've had two children one got thro by the skin of their teeth, she was called a wallpaper child by the Headteacher as she didn't cause trouble etc and just blended into the background, she was also asked to sit an RE GCSE on the morning of the exam after not being taught RE for six months...our other child who is Dyspraxic we moved last year and withn three weeks at their new school had been given extra time in exams, laptops, scribes etc....i will try my hardest to get my other child into another secondary other than Newfield.

i think on the whole the teaching staff try hard but collectively struggle to make a cohesive enviroment. i beleive they would do better with a zero tollerance on behaviour. i have driven up the driveway before when children should be in school and witnessed pupils throwing cans at cars and when they reach the enterance sticking their heads in the lower floor windows swearing and generally trying their best to disrupt other childrens learning.

your kids only get a top quality education in Sheffield, if you are a catholic or can afford to buy a house somewhere like Bents Green

The school is pure rubbish!!!
yes the head teacher as changed so as the building, But in all a very rubbish school,
our son spent 2 years there, until we got him into meadowhead...( FAR BETTER ). As he was getting behind in is work at newfield, upto meadowhead and he got back on track, and went on to sixth form... meadowhead dont stand back like newfield, if your child is not performing then you are fetched into school and made aware of it. actions are taken !!!

our daughter is at newfield still.... (lucky it is her last year)
nothing but rubbish, she as learning problems before she went to newfield but with the right help n support from her primary school (mundella) she was only 3 months behind in her reading n writing age group.now in her last year she is still at the same reading n writing age as she was when she left her primary school.and now suffers from aniexity n panic attacks due to not getting the right support n poor student behaviour in lessons, due to lack of discipline from teachers...(lessons are like going into a ZOO)

Our younger daughter is leaving primary school this year, and we have selected MEADOWHEAD as her school..And if we do not get her in then, we will appeal on the grounds of our eldest daughter and we will home tutor her before we let her go to this ZOO !!!!!!

IF ANY TEACHER WANTS TO PM, ME REGARDING MY SPEECH TODAY ON THIS SUBJECT YOU ARE MORE THEN WELCOME, AS I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR OPPINION!!!!!!

PLEASE LETS HOPE THAT S.E.N.C.O ARE READING THIS...........

THANK YOU FROM
A FRUSTRATED FATHER.

thanks to everyone for their informative and also variable opinions on newfield.. i have spoken to loads of parent who have kids currently at the school... all are extremely happy with it under the new head and in the new school. I'm sure NO school is perfect but these kids are happy and doing well. By the way have you been in the new school?... its wondrous and awesome...with fantastic facilities! I'm sure the school is on the turn around and lets hope this continues as i'm sure you'll all agree that the kids round here deserve a great school. I think i'm sending my son to newfield as i trust the many parents who i have spoken to.. at the end of the day i can always with-draw him and home school him if necessary until i find else where for him...Not that i think i could do a better job thou as it takes an inspired and dedicated person to be a teacher. xxx

BEST OF LUCK...........

have you viewed the school ?????
try taking a look around on open day, then go back during school times..
you might want to change your mind !!!!
or maybe try driving up the drive at home time, see the kids walking in front of your car laughing and throwing things at you....
