Thank you sooooooo much for paying for my parking ticket!
Having arranged to pick Mr Strix up from the station ( subject to the state of H and her current set of germs), I picked up my sick little baby, a dog lead and the car keys (forgetting my mobile phone ) and drove into town
The multi storey carpark has free half hour parking, so I usually pick Mr Strix up there, but there was no sign of him. I wrestled H out of the car and headed into the station, where I found that his usual train was delayed, so we waited, and it was delayed again, so we waited a bit longer
By this time we've run out of free parking time, but it's okay, Mr Strix will have his wallet (I hadn't taken my handbag)... but he didn't get off the train!
I now have a tired, hungry, sick child, and a hungry dog, and no means of escaping the carpark!
A great big thank you to the gentleman at the next pay booth who overheard my explanations to the control centre/helpdesk and paid for my ticket for me!
Mr Strix had interpreted our conversation about picking him up a little differently to how I had , had been on the earlier train, and had gone straight to the bus station, arriving home before the rest of us

Lovely story, just wish parking attendants had a little bit of heart for genuine cases like this without causing people unnecessary awkwardness and embarrassment.

There are no parking attendants there (well, hardly ever).

What a fantastic post for this normally drab and moan infested forum. There are still good guys out there. To be honest, I may pop down there myself next week because my car needs taxing. What day did this hero appear? lol, only joking. I just hope he reads this, but even if he dosent, im sure he will still continue to be a good guy!

i've often wondered what stops you walking to the way in barrier and getting a brand new ticket which means the machine thinks i've been less than 30 mins and just binning the one which says i've been there all day?

Thanks for posting this - I'm sure things like this happen all the time and it makes such a nice change to hear about them instead of all the horrible stories. Is there a website for only good news - I think it would be good for my welbeing to take a look at it for 30 minutes a day - a bit like having one of those special light things for daylight deficiency during the winter.

That's a brilliant story, what a lovely person.
Were you happy with your husband when you got home? It sounds like the kind of thing mine would do.....

There are sensors in the floor and on the barriers. If a vehicle doesn't operate these, the barriers on the way in will not lift and the ticket would be invalid for the way out.

The sensors which mean it will only issue a ticket if there's a car there!
