Sheffield Forum claimed a win in their first league game of the 2011/12 campaign. There were debuts for a few players including the forums own scottf.
Sheffield Forum had the majority of the posession and created numerous chances without really testing the keeper. Phoenix also had their chances which came mainly from throw-ins. They were denied by double saves on 2 occasions and hit the bar while Sheffield Forum also hit the post and squandered numerous chances with the keeper making good saves towards the end of the half.
Just before half time, Forum took the lead when Daniel Sheedy went past 2 defenders before curling a shot into the bottom left corner. HT: Sheffield Forum 1-0 AFC Phoenix
The second half started a little slower but soon chances started to come for Forum though non were taken. Phoenix continued to prove dangerous on throw-ins but caused the keeper no problems while their keeper was in fine form keeping Forum at bay.
Forum then had problems, forward Liam Wales clashed with defender Matthew Corker when challenging for the ball, after which both players had to be substituted. With no defender on the bench, midifelder Scott Staniforth came on for an early debut.
Phoenix then grabbed the equaliser. A through ball was only half cleared by the keeper and fell to Phoenix player who lofted the ball over the defence and into the goal for 1-1.
Both teams were after a winner but Forum seemed most likely although it seemed to be heading for a draw. However, with 15 minutes to go, Sheffield Forums Daniel Sheedy again went past a defender, shot on goal and a deflection took it over the goalkeeper for 2-1.
The game finally ended after a very wet morning, 2-1 to Sheffield Forum.
