I've never had an OAP push past me. Never had one be rude. Never been told that one fought and or died for me. I would happily let an old person through in a queue, I like to be a young gent and frankly I'm not that petty. Also I would like to think that if I did feel unfairly treated by an OAP then I would have the balls to politely pulll them up. I wouldn't come on a forum ranting about what the OAPs get that I don't.

I really find OAP bashing quite distasteful too. It wreaks of something being wrong with society when the old and the young seemigly don't have rights in the eyes of others. We really should respect our elderly and give them a few perks. You never know, one day it might be us.

I think you're just trying to get a reaction.

I wager that at 65 next, I'm fitter and have a better physique than many of the younger posters on this thread. I'm six feet three, fifteen stones in light clothing and am as fit as a butchers dog.

None of these ageist numpties would even dare to say to my face, the garbage that they post from the safety of their computer.

Take away the bus passes and people would use their own transport more, there'd be fewer people using public transport which means that the bus companies would reduce the number of services. They'd no longer be getting the money off local/central government so would no longer be able to afford to run the existing services.

As more routes get closed so more people would take to the roads in their cars. I can Imagine the comments: "Remember the old days when all I had to moan about was the occasional OAP getting on my bus when I was going to work? Now I have to set off 8 hours before I'm due at work because everybody insists on using their car."

You here all week then?

What was the thread about again? Oh yes, twirlies on buses.

What's the point in letting us sit down when we can't get up again when it's time to get off anyway?

Showing my age, the founder of the company that I worked for, will be 100 next year if he makes it. He puts his longevity down to four pints of best bitter a day, and trousers that almost come up to his neck, and he still drives.

I think this shows how rarely you visit night spots. In Hillshorough the pubs are jammed with octogeriatrics playing crib,arm-wrestling and doing karaoke to Gene Pitney and Helen Shapiro. In winter they are out shovelling snow and supplementing their pensions.

You're one of the taller women in Sheffield-did you ever play basketball or change the light bulbs at Blackpool?

This is a bit unlikely as the old and young are like other people, some of whom can be rude. You are guilty of sentimentalising the OAP and appear a bit patronising, although I think you probably mean well with your clumsy words.

I would suggest that the majority of OAP's do not own a car and only use the buses as much as they do because it is free.

In Sheffield 45% of pensioner households own at least one car;mant OAPs rightly leave their cars at home and use the marvellous free transport selflessly leaving the roads free for the young and industrios to pursue their occupations.
