Van M.O.T'd in November, stopped in Feb by vosa - ordered a the van needed a new M.O.T, stopped in May by vosa - ordered the van needed a new M.O.T, stopped yesterday by vosa, found a very minor fault that needs correcting inside four days, then maybe just maybe the van won't need a new M.O.T, surely this is verging on intimidation and corruption by our already disgraceful government Transport Minister, add on to this the vast numbers of police who are there to protect em must cost a fortune. I wish they'd realise they are potentially putting people out of business ? and whats the point in having an M.O.T if they can overrule it at will ? which they do gleefully.
So to all van drivers, try and stay off, Penistone rd, Hillsbro, Barbot Hall Industrial Estate, Rotherham, the link rd between Tankersley and the M1, and Stocksbridge By-Pass, oh and nearly forgot - the dual carriageway from Swinton to Mexbro, Rotherham - these seem to be where good honest hardworking motorists get harrassed the most, and lastly this is in no way aimed at the police who reluctantly agreed they'd rather not be there as it was a waste of their time and did not agree with it !

What was the very minor fault that needed correcting in four days?
Did you need a new MOT certificate in the end?

What were the reasons given for the need for a new MOT.

Get an HGV ticket and drive a truck mate, then you'd have reason to complain about the VOSA numpties. Little jobsworths to a man.

Angel.

What were the two previous faults? Wouldn't a broken coil spring affect the handling on a laden van? That may be why they thought it was dangerous..?

you can't be clever with em and do things like that cos they could make your life even worse by impounding the van, i believe, well they act like they can do as they please, they are a nightmare utterly, totally - no other way to describe em !

Did they break the brakelight because you complained?

Thats a bit OTT once mine was out (on car) and a cop pulled up at side of me and politely informed me that my driver side brake light wasnt working. I thanked him and he drove off.

It was the vosa men who made us walk to get the bulb - the police have always been ok every time we've been stopped - i think the plod are there to protect the vosa men from being filled in, of course the police are always ok with you after they've seen there's no scrap metal in the back !

That would suggest that the van is passing the M.O.T on the day, but becoming unfit through wear and tear before your year is up?

I had the opposite when they stopped me due to a blown bulb.
I was given a ticket, which had to be stamped/signed by a valid MOT tester/station within 7 (or 14 days - can't remember), even after offering to walk to Halfords (about 10 mins away) to buy a replacement. They wouldn't have any of it .

Seen 2 police vehicles in the last week with a brake light out, time to practice what they preach.

The MOT was 3 months old the van 9 yrs old, and has been used maybe 3 days a week tops since 2008 (recession) no1 can justify or reasonably explain the ridiculous actions of vosa to me, they are as i've said before totally and utterly a disgrace !

It all sounds very strange, I wonder why you keep being stopped in your van, unless it looks like a wreck and they think it is unsafe

An incomplete spring is an MOT fail regardless of how safe it looks, as far as I'm aware. What type of van is it, out of interest?
