Who remembers "The Field"? We played there all the time as children (we lived on Durlstone Crescent) There was a big old house at the top, called The Warren I think, and accessed from Gleadless Common. We all thought a witch lived there. Honestly. There was a way through the field onto Ridgeway Crescent, if you were small enough you could squeeze through the hole in the fence, but I saw many a large lady climbing over, with the help of an old metal barrel. This cut short the walk up to Manor Top and our school by quite a distance.

No Crooksey, The Warren was about half way down, on the left, above Durlstone Crescent and just above the row of 3 or 4 bungalows where the Connup family lived
