Hi All,

I have a problem where my computer just turns itself off. Im going to a LAN party next weeked, so am keen to try and get it sorted before I go. Could anyone tell me what the core temp on a Dual core Opteron 170 should be? Im getting these temps on core temp and I think this will be the reasons,

Can anyone confirm if these temps could be the cause of the issue and I dont want to start messing about with the heatsink & CPU paste if I dont have too

Thanks in advance
Mike

Yes those temps are too high, According to the quick google search I just did, the max safe temp is 65 degrees.

Those temps are very high, really when its under load you want to be running at about 55C, idle should be 35-40C with good cooling.

If you're using the stock heatsink/fan, then I would highly recommend firstly 1)reapplying the thermal paste but secondly, if that doesn't bring the temps much lower, then buy a third-party cooler that will bring the temps down further, such as this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/245376

How many fans are in your system? Are there fans in the rear/top of the case to draw airflow through the case and out the back?
