Does anyone know of a good PC based Italian language course? Having finally decided to bin the Telly, I'll have lots of time to "do something less boring instead". Showing my age now! The course I've looked at on Amazon range from cheap to v. expensive so advice needed! Thanks.

I think there's a free beginners one on the BBC website somewhere.

I found this too http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/mo...e/pageone.html

maybe that will help...

I am currently learning German.

I have plenty of books, tapes, CD's etc.

I find the very best audio lessons are the ones recorded by German people that can speak English, rather than English people that can speak German.

I'm confident same applies for Italian

and your point is?

I learnt a bit of italian working in italy 5 years ago cant believe its that long ago!! lol

Anyway, i went working for a few months and being thrust into towns where very little english is spoken is a damn good way to learn the language quick!!

obviously just going to italy though may not be the easiest thing to do!!

i'll go back to lurking

I would recommend "Michel Thomas" for a personal language course, and you can get Italian.
I spent 2 years doing his courses and they were extremely good. He makes you understand everything rather than have to learn loads of stuff parrot fashion. All the time giving you masses of confidence and loads of secret tricks to remember things.

Although if you spend more than 2 years studying on your own I would recommend that you start going to college, because by their very nature, languages are forms of communication and if you neglect the live feedback you get from a teacher and other students you will finish up backed into a corner.

Ultimately you have to join a community of people who speak the new language and become involved.

That's what I did and I am still at it, at an advanced level now.

Well, the original poster asked for tips on learning italian. Cant see why someone hating a different language was worth knowing or relevent to the op.
