Hey there Sheffield forumers, please be gentle with me on my first post!

My girlfriend and me are looking to move to Sheffield soon as I finish my nursing degree. We've really fallen in love with the city! We're just starting to think about what area to be looking for. We know the city centre and Eccleshall Road reasonably well from our trips down but other than exploring by bus and tram a lot of the city is still a mystery waiting to be discovered!

We're looking for a 2/3 bedroom house, possibly a Victorian terrace (bay windows would be nice though) in a nice leafy area with a few decent local shops and pubs, near a nice park would be nice and in an area that doesn't have too many problems with crime, reasonable transport into town and somewhere that would be good to bring up a young family would be good too.

Our budget is ideally around £120k but we could probably stretch to £150k for the dream property (with amazing views or something to set it apart!)...

Having played around on Rightmove it looks like a lot of West Sheffield is out of our reach but these areas appear to be in our budget:

Hillsborough:

Crookes:

Walkley:

Nether Edge/Abbeyfield Road:

Norton Lees/Meersbrook Park:

Heeley:

of these are there any to desperately avoid or that stand out from the rest using the criteria that I set out? I was all set up for Hillsborough with the good shops, lots of pubs and access to the park and tram but playing around with rightmove looks like we can get lots of nice properties in these other areas, so what should we know about them?

Crookes and Walkley will probably give you what you are looking for. You haven't said where you will need to travel to for work. Hallamshire Hospital is nearer Crookes/Walkley. Sheffield s10 and S6 postcodes.

You could always try Hunter's Bar - S11 - just off Ecclesall Road. House prices coming down so you may be lucky.

I have a 3 bed end terraced cottage for sale at Wharncliffe side. Its got spectacular woodland views, on the tramlink route and at a very good guide price of £95-105K.
The area has 2 pubs and 1 shop which incorporates a post office. A good Infant/Junior school and 2 parks. One of which is Glenn howe, which is ten mins walk away and is stunning with some great walks...

I am from s11 originally but moved out east (s25) about 11 years ago due to prices in s11 being well out of my budget.

S11 is lovely and leafy and as you describe, but where I live now (Hillsborough) is just as lovely and leafy but has more of a community feel, and despite prices coming down in s11, you would get a lot more for your money in Hillsborough.

I hope you find what you're looking for...Sheffield is a good place to live, all the best with your search.

Not sure where I'll be working yet but will most likely be either the Northern General, Middlewood or Ouseburn Road near Sharrow Vale.

Just seen your place on rightmove, looks lovely and the view is to die for. Sadly probably a little far out for us right now in life for the odd night out in town but in a few years would've probably been perfect! Good luck with your sale.

Damn!
Was hoping for a sale! Lol! ;-)
To be honest, I don't at all find it a problem going into town for a night out. Im always out and about around town. But its personal preference for a happy distance.
Thanks for the well wishes. I too wish you luck on finding the perfect property. :-)
Take care.
Zips..

The price range seems right where we used to live 2001-2010, 3 bed mid terrace, Sharrow area, raising two children. It's close to Nether Edge, for the park I go to Mount Pleasant Park (near Abbeydale Rd). Personally I never suffered any crime during that time, either personally or to my property/car. And this is with our long annual trips abroad (4-6 weeks). Having said I have heard of a car theft and mugging at least once during those 9 years...

I hear there is a UK crime hotspot maps nowadays on the web?

The 22 bus is a bit of a downer though, somewhat less frequent than one would like.

Hi Daniel3982,
I live in Lower Walkley, not far from Morrisons (more towards town there is also a Tesco). There are a couple of parks near by and a Festival (Peace in the Park) that takes place every year (with a good line up of musicians, organic food, circus skills, etc.).
Good for gyms and swimming pools too. No crime (in my experience).

Hi Daniel3982
What's your timescale for moving to Sheffield? We have a 3 bed 1910-20s terrace in the Walkley Bank area of Sheffield, with fantastic views over the Loxley valley. It's within walking distance of tram stops, all the amenities on South Road and the Rivelin valley where there is a park and great walks.
We're in the process of getting it valued at the moment, with a view to selling ASAP. Please PM me if you might be interested and I'll let you know when the valuations are complete. I expect that it will be within your price range.

you could try around Page Hall ( Earl Marshall Crabtree road Norwood Road area ), Firth Park ( Near Sheffield Lane Top Herries Drive ), Ecclesfield or Chapeltown there is also Pitsmoor which has some beautiful houses and isnt as bad as taxi drivers say on Secret Millionaire ( thats Burngreave ).

Although these are parts that have a bad reputation according to some people on here you are never going to find an area that has no nuisance burglaries crime etc.

Plus you are bang next to the Northern General Hospital and have access to some nice parks ponds etc and the transport links are spot on.

As someone else said, try looking around the Hunter's Bar area, you might find places within your budget there. Otherwise Crookes is probably your best option in my opinion, out of the areas you listed.
