I wish I had not bought this laptop
I have a printer on a network that cannot run in windows 7. I use programs that are also not compatible with windows 7 so I have installed XP mode. Can I use the printer in XP mode? I can't find it when I browse for printers. I have changed the name of my workgroup within the xp version to the correct name but i cannot view the other computers in my workgroup so I cannot add the printer.
I hope that made sense

Hi, if your workgroup name is the same on both ends, then Windows 7 will find it with no problem. If you can't see printer using W-7 then your printer is not configured correctly. I would go to printer manufacturers web site and check compatibility or see if there is "Technical advice bulletin" about what you're experiencing...

Also, why can't you run your printer on Windows 7 ? When you doing the setup / Installation, before you run the application for the printer, right click on it, go to properties and change compatibility mode to XP.. see what happens..
Let us know how you getting on and also, please do post your printer's Make - Model..
Thanks

I can share files and printers between the XP computer and the windows 7 computer. The problem is between xp mode on the windows 7 computer and the xp computer.
There are no drivers available for my printer in windows 7 (canon pixma ip4000) although I have not tried the compatibility option. I will try and work that out now. Thanks

Well, Microsoft says it's compatible with 32 * bit but not 64, which one is yours?
You can check it yourself from HERE.

If I right click on it (both through the "add printer" or just on the icon for the printer) there are no options to change anything.
I think I have it set to "repair problems automatically" using the compatability mode as I did run this to try a get a program working that will only run in XP.

yup the 64 bit, I was a prize fool for getting the 64 bit version but I didn't know anything about the differences (slaps head)
I am an apple kind of person, can you tell. Unfortunately my work software doesn't run on a mac and as this is a work computer I thought it would be easier to get a pc!

Thanks for your help. I am going to get it downgraded to the 32 bit version. Then I should be able to run the programs I require and the printer....hopefully.

Assuming you're running an Intel based Mac, you could install Windows 7 (32 bit) or Windows XP on there as a DualBoot... or install it as a virtual machine...
there's many options...
