Please be aware that yet another 'none charity bag' that pertains to be helping charities around the country came through my door today in Millhouses. It is for 'The hand of Help' commercial comapny who collects clothing and bedding to weigh in and make money from. It is a bright yellow bag with the log of a womans and child in block green next to another child in block red. If you look at these two links both explain how misleading the bags/ commercial charity is.

If you want to recycle your clothes, bedding etc please either take it to your local Supermarket recyling point or to one of the many charity shops around Sheffield.

Just a note on these clothing collection charities.

I had four 'charity bags' from different charities(?) left to be filled last weekend and all due to be collected on the same day this last week.

I was not at home on the actual day but was wondering how busy the street would be and if there would be any 'fisty-cuffs' as to who / which bag belonged to who.

Interesting... I just had a look at what this lot were getting up to.

Apparently the Feb 2011 ruling against these scammers is not the first one. there was also an adjudication against them for the same thing on 1 Jul 2009.

Be warned!

I got it yesterday. It went in the bin with the rest. I don't know how many clothes they think I have spare!

I'm also interested, the ones who claim to send the clothes to Africa and other third world countries... I don't think the africans will fit into my fat sized clothes

Someone run a scheme where people donated their old football shirts and they were send to some African country, there was a clip somewhere showing kids going through the shirts with glee before claiming one that was for them.

In the clip a kid holds a Wednesday shirt up, pulls a face and then throws it back in the bag ……….. that’s a true story, I wish I could find it on youtube.

I'm a well-upholstered lady, too, Leah-Lacie. A friend of a friend (friend's work colleague) is African (Zimbabwean IIRC). Apparently there are larger people despite the poverty.

When I have sort-outs in my wardrobe, I send stuff via this friend to the lady in question, as she packs it in tea chests, and transports it to the pastoral team of the church in her home town. They know the "parishioners", and who the people are who are in need within the parish.

The team then distribute the clothing to the people who are in need.

I far prefer to give the help this way, than to help the bogus collectors. I know that the help is going to the actual folk who need it.

I can be satisfied that the decent stuff isn't going to be skimmed off by the scammers, and sold here in the UK, and confident that the needy in Africa aren't being forced to pay through the nose for the "scabbier" stuff that's left over. (As often happens from the scammers)

I would not send stuff that I would consider unwearable, (IE ripped, stained etc.) but, as I say, I am glad that the stuff is going to help the needy.

A few years ago I worked for a steel company ,and we had a public weighbridge, where you could weigh vehicles . Every few weeks we would have two lorries in jam packed with binliners full of clothing. Avery well dressed blonde woman would accompany the lorries in a newish Jaguar, and when she had the lorry weights she would instruct the drivers about something or other in an eastern European language . Ther were literally scores of tons of clothing shipped out.

I'm not THAT big, although I have gained a couple of dress sizes this year, and just find it hard to imagine the people you see on TV charity appeals squeezing into my size 16 jeans

My 2 year old likes the charity bags that come through the door, and its the only thing she won't throw in the bin when told to. She likes the ones with kites and dogs on most. I always find them hidden and have to bin them. I would much rather donate directly to a church or other organisation that I can trust to actually give them to chairty.

I knew of one bloke from Parson Cross years ago, in fact my OH used to work for him when he was about 15. He had a load of 'charity' bags made up, and collected them, and sold them in a shop for profit.

The wholesale price of mixed textiles can be higher than scrap metal so they'll always be some 'unscrupulous sorts' trying to benefit

For real, or where you drinking something interesting while watching?

Also, why do fans of both Sheffield teams call each other pigs? they are all piggy hooligans and should just accept it ;-)
