My mum took her dog (a westie ) to the PDSA today and was given one of those lamp shade thingy's to stop her from scratching her ear (that's got a wart on, which keeps bleeding ) She's having it removed tomorrow. They told her to make sure she drinks plenty of water .

She's says its to big, bout 8 1/2 inch long so the poor dog cant even drink any water , or walk about ,(cant understand why they gave her such a large one )The question is ........would she be able to cut it down or will the PDSA want it back?

Putting the water dish higher wont help am afraid , her little nose dont come even half way up the lampshade She looks lost it in ,(its like putting a standard lampshade on a bedside table lamp, if you get my drift )

Cut it...if they want it back then tell them you will pay for it...£5 max is what my vets charge.least your pooch can drink...or take it off to let her drink, leave it off whilst you are watching her...if she goes to her wound then put it back on.

We usually tell people to elevate the water dish, ie, on a phone book or a couple of bricks so the collar goes over it. If not as has been said, remove the collar, let her have a drink and replace it. It is long for a reason and that is to stop her getting in to scratch it.
