Evening guys!!! Imminently I will be moving into a newly purchased home, I am living at my parents at present so personally don't have contents cover! I've (and hence have never delved too deeply into it!) had it in the past with a variety of companies and luckily never had to claim. The last few weeks though my parents insurance has come to be renewed and they've had a good read of the small print and basically the contents insurance exempts just about anything you would ever actually need it for. If you have a leak they only fix the leak and whatever it damaged or has to be damaged to get to it is not covered. If you have a fire only totally burnt items are covered. Smoke damage isn't. So one room could set on fire and ruin everything in your house but they will only pay for the one rooms contents. Total rip off skank scenario! I am aware of car insurers doing similar so I did some research and came up with a good one. They cost me a bit more but I am confident I am actually insured. I want the same from my contents (looking like it will be needed in the next few week now). I don't mind paying say £40 a month when it can be had for £20 if I am actually insured against the things that actually happen. Anyone got any advice?

All insurance companies have exactly the same disclaimers, just worded differently. Go for the highest level of cover at the cheapest price you can find, and get cashback with quidco.
Sorted.

I'm not sure I believe that. Car insurance isnt, some will cover you 3rd party on all vehicles some wont. For example many wont insure people in the motor trade on any car. Mine do. They also didnt up my insurance for the amazing wheels I have fitted as well as other stuff on it. The same has to apply to contents insurance what I'm looking for is a company who will take my money and actually bloody cover me I was hoping somebody on here may have sussed out a good firm to use?

You see im less concerned with the cost Rich. £20 a month say is easily achievable but I might as well set fire to it to be honest as it covers nowt. I would rather pay £40, £50 even and be covered so Im looking maybe for a premium kind of cover

We use LTSB insurance. I've had a claim and they paid out pretty quickly.
I have buildings and contents with accidental damage on both. It's not overly cheap but I think you get a discount firstly if you're a new customer and secondly if you take buildings and contents together so the first year is quite cheap. You also get unlimited cover so you'll never be under-insured. I would reccomend

Yup, some years the quidco cashback I have claimed has almost paid for the policy.
Once with pet insurance, the quidco paid the policy and I made a profit!!

Contact your ground landlord and ask for a quote for adding contents cover to the block policy. These guys generally use companies such as Zurich and Aviva, who are highly reputable. Your ground landlord will receive circa 30% of the premium as commission, so he/she is hardly likely to ignore your request.
Also after reading your post you need to brush up on what is a contents claim and what is a buildings claim.
Well there's 26 years professional experience, however knowing this forum, I'm certain that others will know better.

I possibly do - my parents is a house so its done at the same time. So maybe fire etc would be buildings and therefore out of my control as its insured by the management company and not by me?

I have been with the same company for years and always check. This year they put it up by nearly £200,when checked still the cheapest just.I then checked 3F&T the best quote was £200 above my fully comp one !!.Is £200 some majic figure?
I the phoned the original company and said I was not renewing due to the large increase. They put me through to one of the advisors (allegedly)who straight away knocked £80 off.
