The ball is now in Mr Clegg's court after his " Northern " election bashng, what would it take to win the people of Sheffield over again . or is it to late ?
If you could do a shopping list of what strings he could pull to improve things for the people of Sheffield what would it be. (within the financial budget of the government) ?
Some examples could be:
Extra powers to the council to control the bus company's
Money when available to extend the tram
Programme of extra council house building

I would agree with the comments that Clegg needs to stop being Dave Cameron's "Yes" man and stand on his own two feet Politically, the man is the Deputy PM (should be the full PM IMO) for goodness sake, the second most Politically powerfull man in the UK, in theory at least.

I think it would help if Dave would stop giving him all the crappy bits of news to tell the people, whilst keeping all the good, positive news to himself!! Thats one way to make yourself look better aint it Dave. (I voted for neither of these by the way).

What worries me is that he is not strong enough to say no and not wise enough to see how he is being portrayed. He just seams happy to DPM and will do whatever to hold on to the position and sod the rest.

Why does he need to win over Sheffield?
He'll still win his Dore and Totley constituency in 2015 because it's the 4th wealthiest outside of London and was Tory for 100 years before he got in. And the Liberals will still do well in their SE and SW heartland.

fully retract his tongue from the Prime Ministers backside.
and then carry out his threat to protect the NHS and block the tories.
if he doesnt do that now after all he has said then he will have to walk, no way back now.

I think Clegg needs to come to Sheffield and apologise. He's had his telling off, and it has been a lot more than a wrist slap.
And then thereafter consign those things to the past and begin to look forward.
Something along the lines of, "Sorry about the student fees, and not being able to push through our policies, but it is a coalition and were limited in what we can do. We have not been able to put our policies through, as we haven't got the will of the people, and without the will of the people in the form of votes cast from the electorate, we never will."
He can then set out his policies, and perhaps announce some good news (for example council house building in the city - and I think even most Tories see a need for an emergency fund to start building housing, as this can reduce unemployment in the short term and train up the people who will be needed to build housing in the future, and whom can subsequently work in the private sector).
Whilst he is still in government he has a chance to do something for the good of the people.
And he said he is a Lib Dem till he dies, after the election defeat. And for that he deserves credit. A lot of people (especially politicians) would jump ship. If he can stand by his principles then I think he needs forgiving.
He was either a madman or a brave man to form a coalition with the tories in the SRSY though

Regrettably, I think that after the fiasco of the wrong result in the AV vote, the electorate have removed at a stroke, or misplaced cross, whatever, all the influence that the LibDem leadership were exerting over the Tories and reduced him to a mere cypher.
Only time will tell what the effects of this will be. I doubt very much that he'll be able to achieve anything much for Sheffield now. I did say "Upon your own heads be it" when people were bragging about 'showing Clegg' etc. They've succeeded in achieving a Pyhrric victory for the rest of us, imo.

"So what will it take for Nick Clegg to win the people of Sheffield over ? "
Divine intervention aka a bl--dy miracle.

When you get knocked down, you can get back up again and stand tall.
Clegg was always due a bashing at the polls. It's happened now, it's in the past.
The AV referendum was a joke, nobody asked for it, nobody wanted it.
A choice between FPTP and Proportional Representation, or if we want to remain in the EU, maybe!
AV was a choice between 12p paid over a year in twelve regular installments OR 1p paid every month for a year.
