Numerous rumours are today floating around the press that Leeds United are desperate in take Nick Montgomery to Elland Road in the wake of United's relegation.

The "Dirty" west yorkshire club have attempted to poach Monty away from Bramall Lane in the past however have been unsuccessful on more than one attempt with Montgomery signing a new deal with us both times, however with United now being desperate to offload players in an attempt to reduce their wage bill, leeds might see this as good a chance as ever to finally bag their man.

Monty is actually Leeds born and bred and went through his childhood supporting Leeds United therefore might see it as a chance to finish out his career with his childhood club, however after 10 seasons now with Sheffield United which has seen him promoted to the top flight with the club, as well as reach two cup semi finals he would find it very hard to walk away as Sheffield United attempt to pick themselves up from their worst position during his spell at the club.

It was signed, sealed and delivered in January.

Rumour has it for about £500k.

He's defo the sort of player you could do with keeping hold of in league one, he would be tough to replace.

Ay, he's on the best part of £15k though so that aint happening.

I think we'll see more first team action for the likes of Doyle & Collins next season plus we'll probably hang onto Morgan & Cresswell so i think we'll have enough to hold our own for the scrap of Division One.

I'm holding out for good things from Lowton, Macguire and Slew next season.

Slew looks like a good player, it'll be interesting to see how he fairs, i'll have my eye on that lad as i reckon he could do well.

He's a rough diamond but he offers something most of our strikers don't and that is he's a natural goalscorer.

Bogdanovic is a good finisher but too lazy, Hendo is a lump, Evans is thick and Cresswell is old.

It will be interesting to see how Slew and the other youth players develop in Division One.

The problem is if Slew or any of the other kids come in and do well our board will just flog them in January or at the end of the season.

I'm going to sit on the fence when it comes to Monty. I like his never say die attitude but 15k a week is way too much in league 1.

They will but on the plus side most of em are probably still on ten bob and a rat skin so ideal for 'the Blades Way'

My understanding was that Monty was on about 8-9k but you never know with United do you

As for next season I'd imagine Doyle and Collins will have to feature as Adams will now have to justify signing them, alltho not prolific in The Championship i'd imagine both shold do a solid enough job in League one. So looking at it like that, should morgan be fit then you have a back four with Lowton, Collins and Morgan in it meaning a full back would be all we need there.

Should united let Monty go then obviously Adams will then have to look at Doyle to fill him boots in the centre of the park, would be nice if we could keep hold of Williamson too as has shown a bit more about him of late and I really think he could do a cracking job in league one also.

Wingers are what we desperately need to look at but then again theres no surprise in that area as I don't think we've had good wingers in a few years.

Wouldnt Morgan and Cresswell be among the high earners that Adams was refering to in tonights star ,when he said that there are certain players who wont be here next season ,as we have to slash the wage bill. ?

I would have thought ,along with Evans, Simmonson, Montgomery , they would be among the big earners .

well i wouldnt be sad to see Cresswell or Simmonson. Simmo has got to be one of the worst keepers ever to play for United and Ive seen some crap ones having watched United since the late 60s

There has been some garbage who have worn the No 1 jersey at Hillsbro over the years. Seeing Chris Woods between the sticks hardly filled you with confidence . How that bloke ever Played for England beggars belief.

It's a hard one to predict whether United would be better or worse with Monty. Some fans think he is rubbish and others think he is the heart of the team.

And he isn't on 15k. Probably 7 or 8 max and not forgetting most players will be taking an automatic pay cut anyway with relegation clauses in the contract.

i think monty is an ok player. playing for a decent team and with good coaching he has great potential. thats why i think a move to leeds will be good for monty.

Unless he was playing against the Blades. I think the best matches of his career were against us !
