I'm entered; my first real race and I'm looking forward to it.

I might just finish before May 3 if I'm lucky...

I think i may go to watch! A few of us at work have started running once a week, its fun, even tho i'm not much good - breathless/feeling like i want to collapse etc! but it makes you so proud of yourself!

Does anyone run regualrly in the evening? If you don't mind going very slowly; walking a bit then running a bit, i could join you! I guess we all have to start somewhere! lol

It's just that the Sheffield Marathon doesn't receive the kind of support that the London Marathon does. Everything returns to normal 4-5pm and that includes Sweep Bus, St Johns and crowd encouragement all gone.

I think there's a sweep bus that is timed to reach the finish at 2:45, and you're supposed to stay ahead of that.

I don't know if you're forced to finish if the bus catches you.

I try and stick to 4 fast-paced laps round Ecco park around 3 times a week and do alot of shuttles as they're good for speed and stamina- I use the Tennis Courts on Ecco Park for those

Anyone training for the half might be interested in the Lord Mayor's 10k this Sunday.

Details Here

The race passes through Don Valley stadium 7 times, and you are never more than 1K away from the stadium. Should be an excellent way of getting used to the big stadium!

Yes I'm planning on doing the half this year! Not run that far before and not done much training yet. Planning on starting properly this weekend ... guess that gives me 7 weeks!

If anyone fancies a training partner to do speed work in the park eg: Endcliffe or longer runs out Rivelin Valley way at the weekend then pm me, or contact me at:

fit_kat@yahoo.co.uk

PS: I'm not very fast & am aiming at a 10-min mile pace i.e. approx 2 hours 10 mins... In fact it will be an achievement just not to be picked up by the sweep bus!

Er... it's 13.1 miles, which off the top of my head is approx 20K I think.

And yes, if the sweep bus passes you after 2 3/4 hours then you're invited to 'retire' from the race!

I ran for the train this morning!

Can you just hitch a ride on the sweep bus?
