Do you love cycling but hate all the noise, pollution you have to breathe and dangerous drivers you encounter everywhere in the day? Own a bike and have nothing else better to do at night / early morning then why not come for a night bike ride?
Biking at night (except friday & Sat) is simply awesome, it's so much safer because of clear roads, and the few car taxi's that are around notice you more, plus you notice them more and hear them from miles away anyhow, the tranquility and surrealism of it all is something very special and worth experiencing imo.
I'll suggest the 24hour Spar on Ecclesall Road 1am as a meeting place, great for some snacks, nearly always a Police car parked outside and it's a very safe well light area which leads onto many great routes if anyone wants to come along? think I've also some spare lights and illumonous vest if anyone wants'em.

What a brilliant idea!!! I probably won't join you cos I'm not really a serious cyclist (it's my mode of transport rather than my fav sport), but I am going to have a go myself.. thanks

I'm no serious cyclist either, it's my main mode of transport simply because my car is currently off road,
I'll be there tonight regardless no matter whom turns up, and most probably this Sunday night, Fri and Sats are too busy with drunken idiots.

Nah, eccy road is fine, i'd bring the van though, wouldn't fancy doing a decent ride then having to tackle Granville rd / city rd and then Manor lane to get home.

If your interested in this sort of thing then check out http://www.sfnr.org.uk/
It's an already established Night ride with quite a few riders, i'm on the mailing list but haven't attended one yet.

I would be but the best time for cycling is after 1:00am when there really is next to nothing on the roads.

I set of to work at 4am every morning on my bike, I probably encounter 3 or 4 cars on the way-usually taxis.
I know what you mean about the tranquility and surrealism of it, especially with the lighter mornings coming in.

Hello All,
Sheffield District CTC will be running an overnight bike ride to Cleethorpes on Friday 24th June. We'll be setting off from Barkers Pool at 9pm (it might be changed to 10pm) and riding through the night to Cleethorpes, and then catching the train back to Sheffield.
At a distance of about 70 miles, Cleethorpes is one of the closest costal towns to Sheffield.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us - all you need is a roadworthy bicycle, preferably with road tyres, and with lights that are bright enough to see potholes / the road ahead in the absence of streetlights. There's no cost other than the train fare home.
The ride will be at a moderate pace - about 10mph, and will operate a strict 'no-one left behind' policy. It's also fairly flat past Doncaster, so anyone who rides regularly for distances of 20 or 30 miles shouldn't find it too taxing.
If you'd like to come along, pm me - or see the ctc link in my signature for the full calendar and info on signing up to our events email; this way you can be kept up to date with the arrangements.
Thanks
