What are employers looking for?

i am tired of completing application forms and getting no repsonse, even though my skills reflect the job descriptions.

I am a very resourceful person with a great deal of skills and experience in Administration. I have workde for very large oranisations. I notice that females who like to file their nails and flutter their eyelashed at the boss get promotion and given jobs that they are not qualified to do. Is this where i'm going wrong.

haha, i know what you mean, the ammount of times ive walked into offices and its full of attractive women

im in the same boat, started seriously looking for a job again lately, send applications off and dont hear anything back.

i was always told they want, enthusiastic, punctual and reliable people.

Your applications must be a bit dull

Employers know what they are looking for, but throw in all the buzz words you know they salivate at the use of, if it's important or not they take notice.

See how they phrase adverts and mimic/mirror their needs using similar words. Works every time for me. And hold back one important piece of information for the interview. An ace in the pack so to speak.

Did this at my last two interviews and it worked like a charm. They were really interested that they learned something about me they hadn't read on paper.

Regarding filing nails and fluttering eyelashes

1. I don't have any nails to speak of (they get in the way)
2. Flutter eyelashes in my workplace you get recognised for all the wrong reasons and not taken seriously.

I'm not an employer, but if I had to choose someone to interview from the posts so far...

I only spotted one spelling/grammar mistake in fox20thc's post, there were lots in the previous two. Therefore, I'd be better disposed towards fox20thc.

I appreciate that this is an arbitrary decision, but that's often the way the selection process works.

Maggi, who just knows there's a mistake in this post too

lol, tx for that. Not at work at the moment so spelling/grammer is not at the top of my agenda.

Do I get the virtual job then?

but i'd take longer in reading through my applications than i did writing a post on here

i agree with foxc comments - maybe not the right viewpoint but one that employers will (and do!) have. As an employer and often one thats inundated with application forms the best thing you can do is repeat back to the employer what they are looking for. Ie if they say access to car and clean driving licence say that - dont let assumptions be made.
The best thing to do is make it easy for the person recruiting by matching what they say and what you have so we can tick all our boxes. It also helps to have a bit of "you" come across in your application.
