with the world championships not that far away i was wandering (to my knowledge) why there has never been a world class snooker player from sheff, seems a bit strange, as we as a city are as synonymous to snooker as what wembley is to football, i've played the game since i was 11 years old but last played competitively in 1985 when i was 16 and met some great amateurs back in the day but no one who i could say was potentially top 100 or even 200, sad but true IMO

Wasnt shaun murphy from sheffield or rotherham. Its the same thing though aint it sheffield post code. Born 15 mins drive from the crucible they said when he won the world title. So id just class him as a sheffielder and forget the rest
Quite possibly down to the amount of 3/4 snooker tables in the city, most people have never seen a 3/4 table yet Sheffield has enough to run leagues
thats a very valid point, i was thinking that not enough kids get to play on full sized tables due to either the expense of snooker clubs or lack of being allowed into wmc's or social clubs etc, and maybe they do in other areas.
