I did look for threads on the subject but they seem to be old and focus on college courses.

Is there a group short course in Sheffield for novice photographers? I am currently not sure how long I will be staying in the area for so would like a group perhaps, that I could join and learn a few useful starting skills.

Could be evening or weekend (depending on times etc)

Cheers!

sounds good! I am completely new to photography though hopefully this is not a problem?

Also, apart from actually meeting to take photographs I was hoping to get some introduction to techniques etc - at the moment I can probably use about 0.1% of my camera's capabilities!

I have attended this course based at Eckington School of an evening. I found it very informative and learnt lots about my SLR camera. its great for beginners and there is a follow up intermediate class also. The tutor is great too and has lots of time for you. The class size is limited to ten also so not too large.

Tweetypie thank you - that sounds exactly what I am looking for! I haven't got an SLR however, wonder if that will be a problem?

I have a Panasonic Lumix can't quite remember which one - looks like LX5 but just looked on Google images and it may not be the exact one. I've had it for a year but only used it a couple of times, would love to discover what I could do with it beyond 'open lens - point - click'

The coarse should be OK if your Panasonic Lumix has M, S and A on its dial.

Thanks for this. Just had a look and it is a Lumix DMC LX3, and it does have the letters on the dial so should be ok
The course sounds great, seems the next one is only in May - hopefully I will still be in Sheffield then - will have to sign up!

These two courses sound great to me too.

How basic is the beginners course?

I understand a fair bit, i.e. exposures, apertures, depth of field, how they all link together and how to achieve certain effects. The problem I have is putting my knowledge into practice to achieve good shots, composition, etc.

Do you feel it would be beneficial to do the beginners course regardless, followed by the intermediate, or would you go straight to the intermediate given I know the fundamentals?
