Boss receives Birch green light to sign loan frontman
TREVOR Birch, the Sheffield United chief executive, confirmed last night that the club are ready to back manager Micky Adams in the transfer market.
Birch, who also rubbished claims the 49-year-old is fighting to save his job after just seven games in charge, told The Star Adams has received the green light to identify potential loan targets.
With United still 22nd in the Championship table following last weekend’s defeat by Ipswich Town, a striker is known to top Adams’ wish-list.
“If we can find someone who fits the bill then we will do everything in our power to try and bring them here,” said Birch.
“Obviously it’s not a simple task because people with certain attributes in certain positions are at a premium. Then, when you’ve come up with a name it’s a case of persuading them to come here.
“It’s never straight-forward. But rest assured we are working very hard to try and come up with something.”
Birch added: “I’ve heard the rumours about Micky and seen the claims on the internet. When you’re in our position you have to accept that this type of mischief is inevitable but we have complete faith in Micky and (assistant) Alan (Cork).
“Yes, mistakes have been made here in the past but now isn’t the time for navel gazing. Now is the time for everyone to rally behind them and the players.”
United, who return to action when Millwall visit South Yorkshire this weekend, are four points adrift of safety after losing at Portman Road.
Rob Kozluk and Lee Williamson, who were both sent off during the closing stages of that 3-0 defeat, have received in-house fines.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know when Henderson will be fit for selection? The last I heard it was December. I assume he is still on the payroll.
(Apologies if this has been raised on another thread)

Back a couple of weeks back Adams said when poised with the same question that Hendo was making good progress but didn't think we would see him feature at all for 6-8 weeks, therefore based on that I would say end of March earliest which would be too late to make an impace in my opinion.
