Before the m.o.t. Every one i new used to buy old bangers and i have had my fair share.To name a few , I once bought a Austin A55 for £16 , on the way home i found it wouldn,t stop very well going down East Bank Road or any steepish hill.,next day my mechanic mate had look at the brakes and said they were not to bad but the problem could be the concrete floor.Some previous owner had concreted the full back section and the extra weight made the car hard to stop downhill.
Another old banger i had was a Bedford van with sliding doors ,one day while going up Barber Rd at Walkley the passenger door slammed backwards on its runners and shot straight of to be run over by the following 95 bus the bus driver just kept going and i drove that van without a door for another year or so.
At the last count i have had over 50 cars in my driving days and most of them cost less than £200 [Some a lot less than that] but i remember some of them fondly and some with dread. Any old banger stories out there?
